Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2009 (May – Dec.)

I just realized that if Salome gets called up in September, and Colome stays with the team for longer than a month, then we could possibly see Colome pitching to Salome. I like rhymes.

Or Jesus playing catch with an Angel. This probably already happened when they were both in Nashville though.

Here's what I came into this thread to post:

'Baconnaise', bacon flavored mayo, is officially available in grocery stores. $4.97 for a 15oz jar at Pick n' Save and worth every penny.

Other people when they talk things out by themselves, end up talking to their pet or something else with ears. I, on the other the other hand, talk to old champagne corks.

Patrick, yes! I wonder this all the time! Yet I've gotten into a Scottish band recently, and his accent is clear as day. It boggles my mind.

I have always wondered why most bands from the U.K. (Beatles, Rolling Stones, U2, Coldplay, etc) generally sing songs in an American accent.
I think in the case of the Beatles and Stones it's because they were influenced by early American rockabilly and blues type stuff, and covered a lot of that material early on.

In U2's early records, I think Bono actually did sort of retain a bit of his Irish accent, but maybe he just changed his style as the band matured as a whole. Coldplay, probably because they suck (OK, maybe not, I just don't care for them).

I have not been able to get into most Coldplay songs, but Viva la Vida has become one of my favorite songs of all time.

Also, I was just using the bands I mentioned as examples. I'm sure I could list a lot more if I thought about it - The Who, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, etc.

There are also some British bands that I can think of that tend to keep their accent (or it's more noticible) at least for some songs - The Kinks, some of the punk bands (i.e. The Clash, Sex Pistols). Squeeze did some songs in a British accent (i.e. Cool for Cats, Up the Junction) and others they didn't ( i.e. Tempted, Coffee in Bed), I'm guessing that depends on who was doing the lead vocals.

Bob and Brian asked this question to Def Leppard a few years back. It's on one of b+b's albums. The answer was early influences and also that "Love is like a bomb come and get it on" would sound lame sung as an englishman. I think Joe Elliot even sang it very englishy and it did sound bad.

I waited all day to start the grill and of course, it rains just after I get things going....

My bad, but come on.

It is with deep sorrow that I must report my 1978 Pioneer stereo hi fi receiver passed away. It was preceded in death by 4 other receivers. It left behind a seldom used turntable and one usable speaker. RIP oh glorious one. You will be missed by all the lives you have touched.

Friends may call the Sorenson funeral home for service times. Please send donations to the charity of your choice in loo of flowers.

My Sansui cassette deck (circa 1982) sheds a tear for your loss.

I fondly remember those old Pioneers. I must have known 8 guys in high school and college who had them. A solid piece of equipment, and fairly heavy, if memory serves.

Drop the needle on a Van Halen or Cars record, and I'm right back there. . .

It survived my teen years, the endless moves of my 20's and the garage the last 15 years. Gotta love that old school durability.

Watching the Greg Giraldo special last night reminded me of what I was going to type here. I get annoyed at people who put "lol" all the time. It's stupid especially when it is not even anything that is remotely amusing!

My 3 way 5 speaker Sansui speaker systems that I had shipped home in 1973 from the Phillipines when I got out of the Navy still sound very good. I have to google and see if I can find a belt and stylus for the Sansui turntable, not likely I suppose. The Pioneer receiver and Teac cassette deck were dead by the early 80s.

Tonight I went to the Korean area in Dallas and ate at a place called "Number 1 Plus Chicken". I laughed when I saw the sign, and admit that the ridiculousness of the name is the only reason I went there. After having spicy soy sauce fried chicken with mochi, the name makes absolute sense.

You've been put on notice America, foreign cooks have one-upped you on fried chicken. We have nothing left to cling to when asserting our superiority, other than Weird Al and Joey Chestnut.

I always have to laugh at the name of the chinese place on Bluemound near the stadium. I think it's called Double Happiness.

As I drove to get a haircut on Saturday, I turned on one of the XM baseball channels and they had the Angels/BlueJays game on.

I found it semi-neat and nostalgic as I listened because the BlueJays radio guys would pause every time a new batter (home or away) came to the plate and they fed in the stadium PA introducing the batter into the broadcast.

It reminded of me playing my baseball league games with my Coleco Head-to-Head Baseball game, creating lineups with baseball cards, and pretending to be the PA guy and introducing the hitters as they came to the plate.

I just thought it was a nice little touch to their broadcast.

It's amazing how long good speakers will last. Up until a couple years ago, I was using speakers about that old as well... which my parents had given me when I was a kid.

Now my Cerwin Vega speakers died. Kind of my fault though. I was cranking them while playing cool dog in the backyard and the rubber around the edges disintegrated.
