Brewers trade for 1B Rowdy Tellez from Blue Jays

It still blows my mind that the Brewers were able to turn Drew Rasmussen, J.P. Feyereisen, and Bowden Francis into Willy Adames and Rowdy Tellez. In 86 total games with the Brewers, Adames and Tellez have combined for 4.1 bWAR (3.3 in 65 games for Adames, 0.8 in 21 games for Tellez).

I look forward to eating crow and being wrong but how can anyone take these projections seriously that would have Rowdy with an OPS over .800.

It's very early but might at least see what seasoning will make the taste tolerable....

At the time of their acquisition, neither Adames nor Tellez seemed like particularly inspiring gets, but they're turning out to be a HUGE part of this team's success. You gotta wonder if Stearns actually has clairvoyance.

Just want to point out for next time the offense struggles and we point the finger at Andy Haines, that both Adames and Tellez got here and couldn't hit a lick this year with their previous teams and started lighting it up as soon as they got in our lineup.

1b WOAH SOLVDD?

My goodness, what amazing in-season bat acquisitions this year....

If you add the 1.1 OPS Tellez has with the Brewers to the .9 OPS Adames has with the Brewers you get 2. I don't know that this means, but it seems very good.

Do Adames and Tellez cancel out Hiura and Yelich?

Yes, yes they do.

Tellez follows the same thought process as getting Vogelbach last year. Position that always is saturated with intriguing names/productions where you can possibly nab some value for cheap. This is something Stearns has tried a lot in the past in acquiring players. While Vogelbach isn’t really working out long term, maybe Tellez will. I certainly think Tellez is a bit more intriguing and a higher potential guy.

Not sure Tellez will ever be a strong first baseman…but maybe he can hold the position down for a few years and give some solid value.

Enjoy this extended video - First six hits of Rowdy Tellez' career were doubles, all seen here. Take a look at who congratulates him with a mini-hug and a tap on the chest after #1 (Willy). Just two weeks after Rowdy's mom had passed away

Just noticed that Mass has over 55,000 posts on this site.

Talk about a first-ballot BF.net Hall-of-Famer...

(Anyone who doesn't vote for him as a first-ballot guy on account of "principle" or "history" gets a two-year ban.)

Oddly enough Rowdy has 6 doubles for his year thus far.

Someone mentioned his service time. I'm not sure it wound back. Seems his last game before option was June 18 and he played his first game in Milw July 7's double header. That isn't a full 20days which I thought you had to be down before the days counted against service time. He would have played day 19 in to the option. Also I think with the amount of days beyond 162games he would still accrue enough service time to have flipped his year of service.

Just 1.7 more WAR for Rowdy to get us back to zero at 1B in 2021. If he keeps up his current pace he can do it in about 130 PA.

Not important, but that 4th one was maybe the most homerific scoring decision I've ever seen. :laughing

For those of us who haven’t been on this board for decades, what is the inside joke behind WOAH SOLVDD?

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I dont know bout that. He hit it hard. The guy is covering 1st and you would assume on the pitch shuttlestepped away from the bag so off balance. Could have also taken a funky hop. If nobody is on 1st that ball also likely makes past them down that line.

That doesn’t explain anything. Was this just a goofy typo that some have managed to keep as a joke for almost 20 years?

I don't think it was a typo. The guy was trying to say "woes solved". So any time a new hero arrives on the scene the inside joke is to say "1st base WHOA SOLVDD?"

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Coach Cooper always said you can’t have enough inside jokes. You just have to keep pouring them on.

This made me laugh.

I thought that too until they showed it the 2nd time. It went right through him.
