Man do we miss Hader...

This should be a situation Williams can handle, he just isn't to this point. If we lose this it cannot be blamed on guys being out.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

I thought that it would've been a good move at the trade deadline to pick up a closer, so that another "9th-inning guy" would be in the bullpen for days when Hader was unavailable. Apparently Stearns didn't find a trade that made sense in value.

I get it...but the drop off between Josh and anyone else is big.

The problem with Williams this year is that the first batter he faces is getting on at a .432 clip. I'm sure it's gotten better lately but it takes him a while to get things going. Particularly problematic for the closer.

EDIT: But once he gets that changeup dialed in....

Matches my perspective totally. Just seems like a guy who needs to get a feel for the changeup a lot of the time...

Krod vibes, it's kinda hilarious watching guys continue to think it's gonna be the high fastball when it's almost always the low changeup. I think part of why he's successful with more runners on is guys get RBI's on their mind and overly aggressive...and the changeup makes them pay.

I’m tempted to say that was too interesting, but at this point, just win, baby. Don’t let the division chasers see you stumble.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Went high to end it. YES

Nice to see him trusting his 97.5mph fastball up. Seemed like he wasn't trusting his fastball earlier in the season.

I know I've gotten teh same nervous vibes on Wiliams but the reality is he hasn't given up a run in like 12 outings. Obviously 0 since off the DL either. Before today he'd had 3 BBs and 3 hits in 6 innings/appearances since coming back. He's been fine. Sometimes guys are gonna blow a game though, it's baseball

Looking at radar. They should take a short break and just get going again
