It will feel really good to dislodge the horsehoe currently up the Vikes' rears next weekend to remind them of their impending early playoff exit, along with shoring up a great shot at the Packers winding up with the 7 seed in what is honestly a wide-open NFC playoff picture.

I a 100% convinced that the Vikes will lose their first playoff game, whenever it is.

At various points of the last few years, much as been made of the leadership of either Rodgers, LaFleur, or both.  But I can think of no more of a ringing endorsement of the leadership and culture of this team than the fact that they haven’t quit. Not when the injuries piled up, not when the playoff odds were under 10 percent, not when they reached the point where they needed to win out.  No matter what happens the last two weeks, the fact that they are still alive at all is a testament to the character forged in the locker room and in the organization.

And as a PS, it occurred to me yesterday that a stretch run like this probably doesn’t happen if Z Smith is still on the team.  I don’t see a guy like that handling a losing streak very well, and I think he’d be checked out with an “injury” by now.  I know he’s having something of a resurgent year in Minnesota, but it seems clear to me that he’s not the kind of character the Packers need in a season like this.  Credit to Gute for keeping the glue guys and excising a cancer.

I don't think that's fair to Za'Darius. He never showed ANY signs of being a locker room cancer, he was always well respected and gave good effort.

It just came down to his contract was bigger, more difficult to restructure and he was coming off a back injury. I think HE'S wanted to prove to the Packers they were wrong and should have retained him(and in retrospect, seems like they were right)...but I doubt he was ever taking the deal Preston Smith did.

Z was a good dude who was upset because he WANTED to stay in Green Bay, he wanted to finish his career here and he knew that his cap hit made him a VERY likely candidate to be cut.

Also, can you think of any time he  ever quit on us in Green Bay?

I think the fact that he went to Minnesota is coloring your glasses.

Back on the Rodgers/Love discussion, PFF...who's usually not terrible at evaluating trade value...came up with these values and write up's for a potential Aaron Rodgers trade;

And the flip side to that...they believe one of the two MUST be traded. I think that Rodgers deal is absolutely insane and I'd wipe the man tear from my eye and wish him the best of luck playing in New York(which I don't see him agreeing to and what team is taking an unhappy Aaron Rodgers).

I think you get a first for Rodgers at this point...and he has to agree to it. Not because of his contract, because of commons sense. Which is why...without pretending to have any actual clue what the hell is going to happen, I think the Raiders...MAYBE the 49ers are the only real options.

IF-IF it's SF, you tax them by making them give up at least one of those 3rd round picks(I believe they'll be awarded 2 more, 1 this year as they've lost Mayhew to the Commanders in addition to the 2 they got for both McDaniels and Saleh.

So I guess you take a 3rd+a 5th and then a 2024 1st? IDK...

But now if they DON'T trade Rodgers, they anticipate they'll trade Love(I think either they trade Love or they keep both next 2 years as difficult as that may be).

What's the worst that can happen?

-Trade Rodgers and he goes and plays great and wins a SB somewhere else? Great. I'd cheer for him. His team would become my #2 team(unless it was purple).

What if we keep Rodgers, pass up the 1st round pick(hell, maybe we can get more than a 1st for him)...we stay in cap purgatory through the foreseeable future and Love becomes a Pro-Bowl Caliber Starter Elsewhere. Not Mahomes, not Herbert(though I think he has huge upside). But a very solid more mobile Matt Stafford type QB who isn't quite as refined, but now we've got extra picks, cap space in 2024(more like '25) and we can surround him with a really good skill group led by Watson, a talented D and what looks like it should be a good OL moving forward(beyond Bakh)?

So if they trade Rodgers to the Jets, he has some cell phone issues, plays for the Vikings in 2024, loses another NFC championship, and Love is a future HOFer?

I'll take it. ?

$10,609? Damn, that’s like $3,536.33 per downed Dolphin.

I really hope some of that fine goes towards the counseling their children will surely require after watching their fathers not only get absolutely crushed by Lazard, but also mercilessly taunted by him afterward.

But in all seriousness, how does one get the job where they go through all the games and then decide how much to fine each infraction?

If they truly want to crack down on taunting, they need to jack up these fines. I’d be handing out a lot of $69,420 hits if Goodell passed me the reigns.

Hopefully Rodgers doesn't steal from the poor.

Totally worth it, but if this is taunting, they could be ranking up millions in fines each week... good grief.

Packers Lions confirmed for Sunday Night Football.

I'm not going to complain, but what a big advantage for the Packers.  If I was a Lions or Seahawks fan I'd be pretty upset right now.

I don't know that it is a big advantage, I expect a tough game from Lions either way. If anything maybe they are quick to lay down and start thinking about the beach if you get up a couple of scores early, but the flip side is if Seahawks lose the Lions get big locker room boost like we had yesterday. I don't blame the NFL too much, their options were limited and the want the national audience for games that determine who actually makes playoffs. No one is tuning in for games that just affect seeding.

I am missing why the Lions would care…?

Actually, I am wondering why the Lions OR Seahawks would care?

It is an advantage for the Packers IF the Seahawks win…but I don’t see the disadvantage for the Seahawks or Lions.

Even for the Packers, I don’t know that the advantage is that big if the Seahawks lose. Unless the Lions have some major players as 50/50 gametime decisions (that end up getting sat in a meaningless game, I think we basically get 100% effort out of the Lions.

It's more of an advantage for the Packers than it is a disadvantage for the Lions, in that the wind could be taken out of the Lions sails right before the game.  Though if I were a Lions fan it would suck to get hyped to watch a game for the playoffs only for it to be meaningless before it starts.

It is a big disadvantage for the Seahawks though.  The only way they get in is if the Lions win, but by winning their game they remove any incentive for the Lions to win.  Not having both games at the same time really hurts Seattle.

A Dan Campbell coached team is not going to lay down just because they are eliminated. I think any of our division rivals would salivate at the opportunity to knock us out of playoff contention as we are the most hated team in the NFC North. They hate us because they ain't us.

Money talks, and the Packers are a huge TV draw. Especially Aaron Rodgers at home in December in a "win and your in" game. The whole country's eyes are going to be on NBC on Sunday night.

Who would have thought that this particular Packers team would still be relevant in playoff talks by this point? What a crazy season! Basically everything has gone right for the Packers over the last five weeks. They've gone from a team that looked dead in the water and primed for a top 10 draft pick, to a team that could actually make some noise come playoff time.

Having the game on a Sunday night will probably be an advantage for the Packers. The Seahawks likely beat the Rams and the game means nothing for the Lions. They are human and will have a letdown, it doesn't really matter who coaches them, that extra motivation won't be there. On the other hand if they see the Seahawks lose, it will be a dogfight.

Posted

If they win Sunday night and get in, I don't have the same vibes as 2010 almost expecting them to go on a run due to their talent and experience level,  but the rest of the NFC could allow for a run.

That being said, its been a run of sorts just to get back to this position to even squeak into the playoffs, and matchups are going to dictate how long a run the Packers could continue on in the postseason.

Even if the Lions are out at kickoff, they'll still be playing for their first winning season in five years. Hutchinson and their amazing rookie WR won't lay down and Goff has to keep convincing them not to draft a QB. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if the Lions won the game.

Yep, the Lions are just plucky enough to mess up the narrative. The Packers came to play with great energy and a superb gameplan against the Vikings last weekend, and they are going to have to do the same thing to beat the Lions. The Packers are finally playing well enough that I do expect them to win, but it isn't going to be easy.
