freddy peralta activated and will pitch in less than 60 minutes but it's pittsburgh, so expect a rain delay

The only reason to bring Lindblom up is if the Brewers had multiple blowouts and were running thin on positional players who could pitch.

Gonna be a tough few games. Thankfully, Trevor Gott has been outstanding out of the bullpen, so he will probably end up moving to the 7th inning role, pushing Boxberger and Williams back an inning respectively. Also, let me just say best wishes to Josh and his wife, Maria, as they await what is hopefully the birth of a healthy child.

Ok......well, yeah this sucks but they still have a good, a really good rotation, especially if Woody keeps finding that groove he's had the last few starts.  Sounds like Ashby or Small or someone else is just going to have to step up sooner rather than later.  Next guy up.

Bummer for Freddy, but sounds like he should be ready to go again later in the season. Hopefully he can rest up & come back fresh for the stretch run.

Believe Small has missed his last couple starts with non-COVID illness, they might not want to throw him straight into the MLB fire after that (has also walked 15.2% of batters faced this year), so could see Lindblom if they want to stick with the six man rotation during those stretches without off days.

I guess the "good news" is that, of our Big 3, he is the one that we can probably most afford to lose for an extended period of time. That and Lauer's ascension into near-ace status. Now, Freddy can focus on being rested and ready to go for the stretch run, when we will really need him.

With a 13 man pitching staff coming in June, I would think they were heading towards a 5 man rotation.  But they will need someone for the double header next week.

If he is missing significant time, Small has to be the guy I think.

If they do go with Ashby to the rotation, one wild card name that could be in play to fill the long man bullpen spot is Caleb Boushley. Reverse splits on him so far this year, lefties are hitting under .200 against him. With Suter struggling the Brewers options to get lefties out is limited. Doesn't really walk guys either. Just a note.

I agree, give Small the ball for Peralta’s starts.  Bouncing between starting and relief isn’t an ideal role, and Ashby has handled it well.  I’d rather give Small his normal role of starting rather than seeing if he can handle switching back and forth from bullpen to starter.

Why do you think using the same development path they did with Peralta, Woodruff and Ashby wouldn't work with Small?

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

It could, and thats what I thought the plan would be with him.  Im just saying they already have someone comfortable in that swing role so just inserting Small in the rotation would call for one less moving part.  However, Im not taking staunch position on it either way.  I trust the organization to develop the pitching staff.  But if it was me, Id just give Small a chance at staying in the rotation.

Ughhhhhh... If they're already talking about "August" that means there's a decent chance he doesn't return this season. (Heroic return for the playoffs?)

I wouldn't go that far when Counsell just said the other day after the MRI that they fully expect him to return this season. Average recovery timetable for this sort of injury is 6-10 weeks, which is not really that close to a season ender at this point.

I imagine he'll go on the 60 day DL which puts him to.... the last week in July anyway.

a reminder that freddy peralta could be transferred to the 60-day injured list to open up a spot on the 40-man roster . . .

and that's what just happened.
