I don’t necessarily have a problem with any individual pick (don’t know enough about O’Rae to have an opinion), but it feels like at some point the Brewers need to start investing more in pitching again. And this is coming from someone who is as bullish on the Rodriguez/Puello/Cruz/Cornielle group as anyone.

We seem to have hit some sweet maple syrup in Tristan Peters and Tyler Black. I guess we went back to the Canuck pipeline here. I'd love to know who is scouting Canadia as there definitely seems to be a junior version up Nort ala the robust scouting department the Brewers have built south of the borders.

While I would like for the Brewers to invest more draft capital on pitchers, by the time they draft a lot of the available pitchers are either high school kids who’ll never sign, relief pitchers, or back end of the rotation pitchers who I think not many people would be pleased about.

It’s that Doug Melvin connection ?

Might wanna check where Burnes and Woody were drafted, my man.

I honestly forgot Doug is Canadian-born. It seems like forever ago Doug was at the forefront. Knowing how I'm aging, it was probably what only 5-6 years ago??

I think the only reason O'Rae makes sense for the Crew at 102, is that (A) They believe he's good enough at that spot (duh), and (B) they believe some OTHER team also was on him before pick #132. Both of these things are quite possible, perhaps probable. Other possible explanations are that some scout fell in love with O'Rae during some of those Canada barnstorming tours, but O'Rae isn't very good. Time will tell.

Kind of strange to think back on the Doug Melvin era. When he was at the helm, he’d get flak for being unable to form a consistently formidable rotation to go with a powerful lineup. We now have a formidable rotation, but now our lineup is inconsistent in the best of times.

Hard to believe you can pick a guy in the third round that none of the draft experts have ever heard of and what's with all these small middle infielders.

I love it when people complain about "reaches". Trust me the brewers weren't intentionally trying to mess this pick up. They clearly love this kid and didn't think he would last much longer. It really dones't matter if he was or wasn't on the MLB Pipeline top 500 once he is signed and gets going.

It is not impossible as the experts can only cover so many.  There are only so many hours in a day and it would be impossible to cover everyone.  Even after the top 100 players that the experts look at the scouting reports get very vague and only cover a few things.  There are going to be players that are going to get missed where a teams scout happens to visit an area where someone they were looking at is playing another team and they see another player that they were not looking at.

Teams are going to have more resources to throw at finding players than the draft experts will ever have.

They do have a top 500 so its pretty hard to believe no one knew who this guy was.

I'm generally intrigued by any individual espousing two first names. 'Will Rudy'. Will he what? Sounds like an underdog story to me. I'm all aboard!
