The Cardinals were a mediocre team in 2011, traded for some bullpen arms and rode them to a title so who knows?

So did the Royals in 2015.  Make it a 5-6 inning game, and with Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Ashby, and Lauer, those are going to be damn tough 5-6 innings for the other team.

Doesn't seem odd to me. Rosenthal has the potential to be a lockdown reliever once he's back.

For all of the handwringing about adding a bat, if you actually look at stats the bullpen was our biggest area of need. I like what they're doing. (Would still like for them to add a bat, of course.)

The Giants did give him a 4.5 million dollar guarantee

Can someone explain how a 32 yr old guy who hasn't pitched in two years somehow got a 4.5 mill contract??? That blows my mind, absolutely blows it.

He's an extremely good reliever. If he was healthy he'd have been asking for $45 million.

Those Cardinals were also 83-79 and like 10 games out of the playoffs going into September lol

I think you're thinking of 2006.

All their moves today could work out to greatly strengthen the BP, and I haven't been down on the offense to the extent some on here have been, but did anyone think they would go through this picking up six players, and five being pitchers? Of course, there's still 15 min.

He hasn't been extremely good since 2017!

The last time he pitched, in 2020, he put up a 14.5 K/9, 1.90 ERA, 2.22 FIP, and after the Padres traded for him he went Sabathia mode and put up a 15.3 K/9, 0.00 ERA, 0.09 FIP (!!) in 10.0 IP.

I was pretty surprised when I saw him get that contract as well. I was also stunned the penny-pinching A's gave him $11 million last year. Nice to be him.

Why didn't we just sign him a couple of weeks ago?

Bummer, Peters was having a good year, Was hoping it would only cost like Zavier Warren or Gabe Holt or something.

Tristan Peters is a hefty price to pay for a guy we could have signed ourself a little over a week ago.  I like Rosenthal but can't justify the process in how we added him.

Who cares? The fact is we didn't, and we have him now and the team is better off.

Consider my head scratched

Giants probably offered more money. Then they fell out of contention & don't need him anymore, so buh bye.

Or Rosenthal preferred SF to Milwaukee.  There's lots of reasons that may have happened.

If we had signed him, we'd have saved a top 20 prospect. Are those inconsequential?

Stearns is embarrassing himself.
