Basically a bullpen game with Houser “opening” in this game instead of making another rehab start in Nashville.

The Brewers socked 3 HRs against Heaney last week. If they can do that again maybe they can get to the 6th inning in a tight game and pull it out.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Hopefully its Dodger hard hat giveaway day in the bleachers....

Not overly optimistic about this one staying under a touchdown and field goal....

Especially since we pitch position players down 6 in the 8th.

The Brewers have not been playing like we have all hoped but having a chance to win a 7 game series against the Dodgers is a positive. Heaney is the Dodgers version of Jason Alexander, regression will hit him hard.

Andrew Heaney is a much, much better pitcher than Jason Alexander. Not close or comparable in style even.

Considering pretty much everything the Dodgers have is a "rich man's version" of what the Brewers have, I thought it was an apt comparison.

As the Braves complete their series sweep over the Pirates with a 14-2 win, it just makes me sick to think of how the Brewers have lost 7 of their last 10 to that team considering their overall record over the last few months.

Yes, I know that the Pirates won 5 of 6 over the Dodgers early in the year, but a team that’s cruising to over 100 wins and the number one seed in the playoffs can afford to tank a few games and series. A team that was always going to be in a tight race to win the division or get a playoff spot has a lot less margin for error.

To put this in perspective, after the Pirates completed their sweep over the Dodgers on June 1, their record was a semi respectable 22-27, and they went to 24-28 by winning their next series over the DBacks. Since then they have gone 23-49 and have won only 3 series (2 over the Brewers and one over the Cubs, who have beaten the Brewers in 6 of the last 8 meetings).

So, after June 1, the Pirates are 7-3 against the Brewers and 16-46 against everyone else.

That 5-13 record for the Brewers against the Cubs and Pirates since June 1 is really going to stand out if they miss the playoffs by a game or two. Unless they can mitigate some of this damage by taking 5 or 6 when they face these teams at AFF after leaving LA, things are going to look pretty bleak. At this point “just win series” might not be good enough unless they literally win every one or throw in a few sweeps.

Since the middle of June, the Cubs have a better record than the Yankees.

Let's not pretend that this is the same Cubs team as April and May.  It isn't - they got rid of Simmons (.431 OPS) and Villar (.598 OPS), sent Rivas (.630 OPS) and Bote (.692 OPS) down, and got Heyward (.556 OPS) and Schwindel (.635 OPS) on the IL.

Here's the biggest reason for optimism imo: Brewers with the 22nd most difficult schedule remaining, while the Padres have the 5th most difficult remaining schedule. Padres also set to get swept in their short two game series against the Guardians and have Soto nursing a back injury, with Hader being removed from the closers' role due to ineffectiveness and Tatis no longer coming back. Finally, counting today, the Brewers have 40 games remaining, while the Padres only have 37. So, things are certainly set up for the Brewers to play their way into the playoffs, but they will actually have to take care of business against the Pirates, Cubs, Reds, etc. for that to happen.

We don’t even have to play THAT “well” to get into the playoffs. It’s crazy to think. I used to think 90 wins was a must for division winner or (one) wild card. Now, a few games over .500 might do it for the third WC.
We’ll see how the Padres and Phillies do, but the Brewers are still a scary team to play in a three game series. Peralta or Lauer could pitch middle relief, one or the other.

I’m at the point that no matter the outcome tonight.   We need to talk 5 or all 6 of those games against the cubs and pirates

Padres lose again…….their offense has been worse then the Brewers since they went “all in”at the deadline .

Hader pitched in a game they lost 7-0 to,try and find some confidence.

Gave up 2 hits but struck out the side and got through the inning without giving up a run.

If they don't make the playoffs Preller is a walking pink slip.

Win or lose there’s a 100 % chance I’m not finding out until the morning.  Hopefully I wake up to good news……posted this in game one and it worked out well.  Thought I’d try it again.

Best wishes to the Brewers and all you fine people. I'mma drink a beer or couple, but it's probably too late to engage in this one. Work, getting old, etc.
