Braves have optioned Vaughn Grissom and Braden Shewmake to AAA clearing the way for Orlando Arcia to open the season as Dansby Swanson’s replacement.

Not really news but more of an observation. My family visited Truist Park as part of Spring Break. I went there and thought there might be some interesting Milwaukee Braves items. They had a large team store and there were zero Milwaukee Braves items, huge wall of hats and not a single Milwaukee Braves one. I note this because I sometimes see fans question why we honor the Milwaukee Braves teams when that is not our franchise. However, it sure seems like the Milwaukee Braves franchise and even the players that didn't play for Atlanta would be forgotten if not for the Brewers continuing to recognize those teams and players. To be fair there was a Warren Spahn Statue at one of the entrances.

Giménez and the Guardians agree on 7-year $106.5m extension with a club option for an 8th year.  This is probably close to what it would take to get Frelick on an extension.  The Brewers would have to do this either after his first year or just before his first year is up otherwise you are looking at something a lot higher.

Good info to post, but I don't think this has any bearing on Frelick. Gimenez only has 4 years of team control and actually struggled a bit early in his career. Their offensive profiles are also very very different.

This has nothing to do with comparing players and only has to do with comparing the figure at which it would take to sign Frelick to an extension.  This is what agents and teams go by.  They go by the recent contracts that have been signed and gauge the player based on this information.  So this is relevant to a Frelick extension as it would cost something close to what Gimenez signed for.

I disagree, team control, skill, upside, etc all matter. I think in this case, looking at Ke'bryan Hayes is probably the best comparable. He had a full year of service time, but last year signed an 8/70 extension. This is the largest deal ever given to a player with between 1 and 2 years service time and buys out 3 years of free agency with an option for a 4th. That's probably a much better basis point than a guy with 2+ years of data, but I also suspect is probably more than Frelick could get considering he has 0 MLB at bats and doesn't have nearly the upside of Hayes.

Gimenez is an elite defensive middle infielder coming off a 6 fWAR season and only had 4 years of team control left. Frelick isn't getting close to that AAV for a 7 year extension.

Yeah, not comparable at all until Frelick has a season like Gimenez just had. Right now, Frelick has a total of zero MLB at-bats.

Hoerner's deal would be more comparable for Frelick than Gimenez, and even then, Hoerner’s much further along in the process....

Sergio Romo signed a contract to retire with the Giants and pitch one last game, their last exhibition game against the A's in San Francisco.  He wore a special hat for the occasion, pretty cool idea, I'm sure it made each kid's day too.

These young player deals you guys want to lock all our prospects who are unproven at the MLB level up with already are risky. Imagine if we signed Huira to one of these 7-8 year deals for over $100 million after 2019? Yikes. We're gonna have these guys for a long time even without these deals, we're fine.

Just placing this here for future reference...

Jensen Lewis  @JLEWFifty

Crazy to think for the price of Francisco Lindor’s Mets contract ($341M), the #Guardians spent almost that on the following extensions/FA currently on the roster:
$141M/7yr: JRAM
$106.5M/7yr: Gimenez
$33M/2yr: J.Bell
$25M/5yr: Straw
$20M/5yr: Clase
$6M: Zunino
$331.5M total
----------------------------------------------------------
& that was before this news broke on Weds evening

Note: No deals above were made to someone before their MLB debut...  Not every deal is for mega dollars or going great (that Straw deal looks bad for the team at the moment), but a good front office (& I feel most believe MKE has a good FO) can effectively operate within a set of reasonable parameters.

I saw this yesterday on my twitter feed.  While I deplore all things Cardinal, this way actually pretty neat.  The guy is certainly one-of-a-kind.  I applaud him for wanting to try things out before he retires.

Just saw this so sorry for the late response, but I never understood why histories follow teams(I know why they do legally but it's dumb). Warren Spahn literally never played in Atlanta. If the Edmonton Oilers ever moved to Milwaukee I'd find it weird to celebrate Wayne Gretzky or the Stanley Cups they had won for example.
