You figured this was going to be the case when MA announced the entire staff was coming back.

I’m pretty indifferent about this one. They’re clearly opting for continuity, which isn’t a bad choice when you’ve won as much as we have.

I believe it's fair to say Murphy is likely better equipped to manage this team than the 2015 Padres as an interim. Hopefully, he brings back Dave Roberts as his bench coach.😎

What can we expect as "differences" between Murphy and Counsell?  For example, will Murphy have the team run more?  Sacrifice occasionally?

This seems fine but uninspiring. I wanted two things from this hire, A guy who could implement the analytical data given to him by the Front office and someone who could establish and maintain a good clubhouse culture. It seems Murphy has as good of a chance as anybody at doing those two things

Would have preferred a young unknown first timer from outside the organization, but still better than a Shildt, Mattingly or Ross type so shrug emoji.

The organization obviously has a better idea about Murphy’s capabilities than I do, so guess I’ll hope they got it right.

The player moves they end up making the rest of the winter are going to have a way bigger impact on how 2024 plays out than this hire (whoever it was) anyway.

I’m terribly disappointed in this decision

Murphy is the only name mentioned that made me cringe

He belongs with his little buddy Counsell in Chicago

I was hoping for a younger, Brewers system guy like McKinven

Oh well … I was pulling for the Brewers long before Murphy & assuming I live for a while I’ll be pulling for them once he is fired sometime in the future

This makes me equally as sad as Counsell bolting for the Cubbies

I’m not excited at all … I hope they tear down & rebuild immediately

Rickie Weeks to be the bench coach

I’m not a fan of Murphy as manager nor am I happy with Weeks as bench coach … yuck & yuck … there could have been no worse choices in my opinion 🤮

Once ownership said the entire staff was rehired, this was the only possible scenario. I hope McKinven is the bench coach and take over in 2-3 years

I would have liked seeing McKinven being named manager

This feels like it was the plan all along. The Brewers knew Counsell was a goner. The staff re-signed knowing Murphy was going to be promoted. Just needed Counsell to actually leave to finalize things.  I'm fine with it as I think the team will step back next year. It's a one year audition for Murphy IMHO until they are ready to compete in 2025.

I was hoping for a complete break with Counsell … I hate that these two buddies will lead separate teams … I don’t want a chummy Brewers / Cubs relationship between the managers

I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I saw CC in that Cubs uniform.

They are more likely to compete in '24 than in '25 and they are more likely to compete in '26 than '25, and they are more likely to compete in '24 than '26.  Next year is the "go for it" year...until the deadline, at which point it will be the "sell it ALL" year.  If they sell mid-season it would likely be a set-up to compete in '26 at the earliest...maybe later.

No matter what happens I'm pretty sure '25 is the complete re-build year.

Not to get too off topic, but I disagree. Reports from the winter meetings are that the Brewers are open for business. Burnes and Peralta may be on the trading block this winter.

We would be beyond stupid to risk Burnes value by trying to compete in 2024.

Agreed. Any reports to the contrary are likely just to drive up value.
