One last breakdown from an OL King. Here's Owen Riese on Morgan. His conclusion seems to be the consensus of the O-Line gurus.

In other news, I think we all know/knew Day 2 is where the Packers can really butter their bread and strengthen their roster. This is a huge day. Let's hope they crush it.

Barton was the guy I was hoping would be available when the Packers picked, but I'm okay with Morgan, especially if the front office thinks he has a better chance of sticking at LT.

Curious to see the Day 2 picks, but even more curious to find out whether the Packers move up to get a DB even earlier than 41, with both DeJean and Kool-Aid on the board.

So onto predictions for today.

I see LB, S, OG, CB as being the top needs.

Washington has two picks ahead of the Packers and Seattle has one, and LB has shown up on the needs list for each of those teams.  If the Packers are dead set on taking a linebacker, they could move up.  However, with DeJean and Rakestraw making it out of round one, Kool-Aid McKinstry still on the board, Edgerrin Cooper and Payton Wilson...there are enough attractive candidates that I'd guess Gutekunst just sits back and takes whoever falls to him.  I still think he would prefer to go linebacker here.  I guess Cooper is the first to go and Wilson makes it to the Packers.  So I'll guess Payton Wilson at #41.

I was a lean towards fast-rising safety Jaden Hicks as being the Packers pick at #58.  Now I think he's going to be off the board.  The type of corners I think the Packers will be looking for will largely be cleaned out, with the exception of Max Melton, who I think is a good possibility.  Guard candidates, there are quite a few.  My gut feeling just tells me that they will go safety.  If Hicks is there, I think the Packers take him, but think Nubin and Hicks will be the two that will be off the board.  Javon Bullard would be the obvious guy left, but with all the talk of a single high safety and the other one walking down and having to cover, I'm going to go against who I probably should pick and will predict that the Packers take Texas Tech safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson.  I had him in to Green Bay in the first mock I did, and will go back to him here.  Smarter money would be on Hicks or Bullard, but I'll go with the sleeper and predict Taylor-Demerson.

#88 - I think Gutekunst would be perfectly content at this point to just go with a "best player" available pick since he has already checked left tackle, linebacker and safety off the list...but there are so many corners grading out as late third rounders that I think it's likely he grabs one at #88 or #91 unless he's already taken one earlier.  I'll predict CB-Renardo Green/Florida State.

#91 - I'll go with Brandon Coleman/OG/Texas Christian.  22 college starts at left tackle, 11 starts at left guard and 1 at right guard.  I think he is better fit on the left side of the offensive line, but I think Gutekunst falls in love with his size and athletic ability, and takes him with the idea they can plug him in at right guard.

Back to ATL for a sec - BIjan, Pitts, London, Odunze....I mean Uncle Rico could have QB'd that team to the playoffs.

Uncle Rico is super underrated.  He has a big arm

I could see the Packers going with a RB with one of their 3rd round picks.  Also don't be surprised if it is a WR/PR/KR.

Falcons are getting roasted.

I think justifiably so. Just a weird selection. The team is poised for some good stuff, and could have added a really great player that helps now.

Regarding the Morgan pick, I think it's fine. OL was high on our list - and this fills it. I liked Barton better because I think he can be an all-pro at C or G. So much about Morgan depends on his ability to play tackle. And if the team thinks he can do it at a high level - great. I like that Morgan is ready to play - not a developmental guy.

For me, I sort of looked at Morgan as being the kind of guy who would be a good player - maybe even at tackle - although some question that. I liked Barton because I think he was more of a certainty at G/C.

But the club seems comfortable with the idea of him being a tackle in the pros - so good for him.

Regarding not selecting DeJean - or another corner - that was tough to pass on. I think it's harder to find really good defensive backs in the later rounds - compared to finding decent linemen. Taking a corner would have meant passing on a guy the club thinks can step in and play right away - including at tackle.

The Bears FO was so excited when the Falcons made their pick.  They were ready to trade the pick if one of the WR’s wasn’t available.

Today's second round picks (precluding a trade or someone unexpectedly dropping, such as DeJean, Kool-Aid or Newton):

#41 - LB - Edgerrin Cooper, Junior Colson, Payton Wilson. Pick the best guy remaining. Wilson is kind of a weird one. I love the guy, but huge medical concerns. I could see passing due to that. But I like him a lot.

#58 - S - Team passed on a corner, so they need to address the secondary, and the best safeties will start falling off the board in the 2nd round. Bullard, Nubin, Hicks, Bishop. Pick the guy that lasts and you like best.

I'm not being very original - but I see the need and the value is there.

The Falcons gave the Bears a huge gift with that pick. Still dumbfounded.

Some reports out that the Packers are trying to move up in the 2nd.  Also Jaguars and Eagles.

That would be interesting...I'm guessing a lot of teams check out moving up at this point. #33 is sort of a nice place to be at.

Never forget the importance the Packers staff places on the Senior Bowl. Never. That's a LT set-up. Sure seems like there is a plan in place to legitimately move Tom to OC. Walker to RT. #SchemingAfterRoundOne

Yes, they do love the Sr Bowl. I believe that's Kneeland he's going up against. A guy I wouldn't mind seeing in GB end of day 2(that's probably the pick you're losing if you want to move up for DeJean).

I'm not sure if they plan on moving Walker to LT though. My prediction would be that they let Morgan compete at both LT and RG and if he can beat out Walker, he does. I would guess a move for Tom comes after next year(and probably after he signs an extension and you'll have to pay him as an elite OT).

I'd still love to see the Packers come back in Rd3 and target a Zach Zinter, Coleman, Kiran type player. I actually think all three offer some versatility. Zinter is long and could play RT(it'd be less than idea, but I'm talking about as a backup RT only).

I wouldn't be surprised at a move up in the 2nd... but I'm also thinking (unless there are other trades), it looks like Dejean has a decent chance to dropping to #41 also. Looks like there are a lot of WRs that are going to go ahead of #41

looking at the re-mocks this AM is pretty crazy. A lot of 1st round talent available.

Technically this can't be true, right? 😉

Ridiculous pick. They double-screwed the Packers. They DON'T take the young QB in McCarthy leaving him to fall to the Vikes, they take the guy who'll be ready for his AARP card when Cousins contract is up...

That said, the Vikings and Bears have very little draft capital left.

Ok...two WRs...the CBs falling again?

Maybe they're just not that good, I don't know...but another offense run helps the Packers. And Mitchell seems likely to go in the next 7 picks.

It cost the Chargers a 4th to move up and they got a 5th. I think it might be worth to move up

I'd wait a couple more picks. I would be thrilled with Newton, Kool-Aid OR DeJean at #41. I had DeJean and Morgan at #25/#41, so I'd be thrilled if you just flipped it.

Cost ATL a lot more...these draft charts kinda get thrown out here.
