Regardless of reasoning, I’m shocked Frelick is not in the line-up.

Same here. Doesn’t he have fairly good numbers against lefties anyway? I don’t like this one bit.

No, pretty terrible actually.

Perkins sucks too though.

Wait, how can he have 58 PA vs LHP and 77 PA vs LH Starter?

In any case, neither of the sample sizes for those players means anything at this point. MiLB numbers would be more instructive.

Couldn't agree more, turning your top prospects into platoon bats is the Brewer way...

Look at minor league stats. He's just as good against lefties. You're looking at a small sample, in which he was shielded from facing lefties so was surely less comfortable against lefties when he did have to face them. This strategy by the Brewers making failures against same-handed pitching a pre-determined outcome.

I think I looked into this some time ago, and that the answer is that the ABs against LH starter include all ABs in a game started by a LHP, where the other reflects only ABs against a LHP (whether that pitcher was a starter or a reliever).

I’m a little surprised he’s got Chourio in the leadoff spot. Kinda thought they would “ease” him in and have him batting 7-9 somewhere. But heck ya, let’s get after it from day 1.

I kind of love it, but I think long term he would be better off in the 2-hole behind Yelich. That's what the Mariners do with Julio Rodriguez and I think it benefits him to stand in the on deck circle and watch a veteran who knows how to work counts and draw walks at the plate (JP Crawford).

Ah, that's not intuitive at all. Thanks!

Not necessarily. Players can definitely not struggle in the minors and then discover those issues when they don't have lesser talent to shield those struggles. Hiura is a bit of an odd case, but he went from destroying LHP in the minors (as expected) to struggling mightily in the majors.

Whatever the struggle may or may not be...how that shakes out come the MLB level is a bit of a crapshoot. His performance in the minors isn't necessarily any better of a reflection of his future performance. Weeks was a batting average guru, never happened at the MLB level. Frelick is much the same...he may never hit for a high average.

Hiura in A+ and AA in 2018.

Hiura MLB Splits (career)

Now this is getting a bit off topic, because in the grand scheme, I am not really agreeing with him on the bench against LHP.  I would have started him and given him a chance to play against LHP every day.

Questions are a burden.   And answers a prison for one's self.

Frelick sitting automatically against LHP with his minor league splits is one thing, but sitting him in favor of Perkins is another thing all together.

Fire Murphy!

By my calculations, Frelick has a .841 career OPS in the minors versus lefties. Perkins's career minor league OPS is actually lower but has been better the past three years. Regardless, I don't see the need to make him a platoon player at this point in his career especially for the likes of Perkins.

Couldn’t go a day without complaining about people complaining about the lineup.

I think Chourio decided he was going to take a strike before swinging and he never got one.
