How do the Dodgers get away with this.

They take on more money than any other franchise, so they have to give up less capital in prospects. Always.

This is a rental arm that has an extensive injury history. He has been middling as hell throughout the majority of his career. This year he seems to have tapped into something, but I am not losing sleep about missing on him.

Side note it is hilarious to watch MLB network try to hype this up as a BIG deal. What a snoozer of a deadline overall.

My main excitement from today? INF Luis Pena was pulled in the DSL Cerveceros Uno game. He was 0-for-4 with 1 K (a very rare 0-for outing). I was legitimately lamenting possibly throwing this major-upside talent in to some type of starter rental deal. I can rest easy. The stud stays in the Brewers infield stables!

OMG I would've soiled myself if I knew that he was pulled. Sigh of relief.

Well Civale and Montas this is the kind of haul I was expecting as of 2 weeks ago. Was hoping for a bigger surprise though.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

As in past deadlines, I don't lament not getting this-or-that guy unless I know what the cost would've been. At least I didn't read anything about 'moving the needle' this year.

I'll admit I would be interested in knowing if we looked into IKF & what it would've taken. He would've been a nice fit.

What did we offer?

I'm assuming the Dodgers made the best offer, or Flaherty wouldn't be going there.

Well, the org either feels this team is good enough as is to make a deep playoff run, knows there are too many holes to reasonably fill in order to make a deep playoff run, or just doesn't care either way.

The market was awful for a team like the Brewers. Especially with how random October is and the injury issues on the current team. Lot of reasons to not throw away legit prospects.

One thing I thought it is they must have a fair amount of confidence in Yelich coming back this year

As I opined (and suspected) post-Wiemer in the Montas deal...Tyler Black is getting his first action in LF since the 2022 Arizona Fall League. I'll say it again: the OF grass certainly appears to be his best chance at becoming an MLB utility player. His athleticism really plays out there and the decisions have just a little more time to breathe. We need to see how he tracks and jumps and reads angles on a more consistent basis to make any truly informed proclamations but I've actually quite liked what I've seen in his limited exposure. This is an intriguing development happening on the fringes of the upper org depth chart(s).

I hope the decision not to add was not from any level of confidence that Yelich is going to come back in the same form he showed most of the year.

Too bad there's no room on the OF grass in Milwaukee.

I look forward to you waiting 3-4 years before commenting on any trade.

Maybe if the comment was Marlins got the biggest influx of talent; it would be fair.

But Miami gutting their roster in order for the sole purpose of starting over for the umpteenth time really doesn’t impress me, especially given their track record in trading vets for minor leaguers.

Well, let's be honest: he's a ways off from earning any spot in the Brewers clubhouse based on defensive anything. BUT, getting him meaningful reps in the OF grass prepares him for possibly filling a role yet this season. Injuries happen. You never know. Selfishly, as a Minor League nerd, I simply want to see more reps. Is my intuition and read on this situation accurate? OR, is it fool's gold based on too few reps? I'm hoping I can learn with repeated games in Nashville manning an OF spot.

Overall, I'm fine with not mortgaging any pieces from what should be a nice extended window opening up here in the next few years.

I will be interested to see how they plan on getting outs in the postseason, though. Hard to do bullpen games all the time. We really need Freddy to pick it up like he did in the 2nd half last year.

Kind of seems like we gave up more for Montas than the Dodgers gave up for Flaherty... 🤣

I've wondered why this took so long. Black hasn't had a legit place anywhere on the infield for awhile now, yet he's a very good athlete, which helps in chasing down fly balls

Last Minor League tidbit (given our Deadline passed with no action):

Bitonti is playing 1B for the Mudcats tonight batting clean-up (he hasn't played an inning of 1B in his entire time in the ACL but I mentioned this was his clear easiest way to get in the Mudcats line-up given their overt lack of depth there) and he is being protected by Adamczewski playing 2B and batting 5th. THIS is very exciting.

Baltimore DFA'd LHSP Cole Irvin to make room for their new additions. Brewers could do worse to add some innings depth down the stretch. How does that work after the trade deadline, we could still trade for him or could only get him if he passes all the way to us via waivers?

Yeah, injuries can always happen. And I would like to see him find a true defensive home.

But, gosh, if that home is in the OF grass hard to see him having much of an impact in Milwaukee in the immediate future.
