Chourio trying to get to .280 as quickly as possible.

As a reminder, on June 1 he was hitting .210.

.210!!

If Chourio gets to 20 HR/20 SB this season, he will very likely become the first rookie to do so and not win Rookie of the Year since Anthony Volpe last year. The only other was Ellis Burks in 1987, who lost to Mark McGwire. All other 13 won it.

Wow, hell of a spot to put your closer. lol

Well, the dude hasn't pitched since August 1st.  He needed to get some work in, what better of a spot than with bases loaded for your closer who needs to throw some pitches?

Well, was there a rookie pitcher the likes of Paul Skenes that year?

In my opinion, there should be a pitching rookie of the year, and an offensive rookie of the year.  Why they don't do it that way is beyond me.

Edit: Anthony Volpe also did it and did not win last year.

Fun question for another thread: What would his stat line have to be to move ahead of Skenes? How quickly would the Pirates need to shut Skenes down?

Skenes could also have a couple of blow up starts yet to change perception. Jackson getting started relatively early on his hot streak gives some time for things to build I think with today his OPS has been over .900 going back to Jun 1. Potentially becoming the face on a team headed to a division title while Yelich is on the bench can drive some votes too.

Obviously more goes into it than strictly WAR, but Skenes is at 3.7 rWAR currently versus Jackson at 2.2 WAR before today.

Over the last 15 games / 68 PA coming into today Jackson put up a 177 wRC+ and 1.0 WAR.

Continuing that pace over the rest of the year (highly unlikely but how cool would that be?) would get him over 5.0 WAR, maybe even approaching 5.5 WAR.

Skenes probably has six or seven starts left if he isn't shut down early, at his current pace that would put him somewhere around 5.5 rWAR too.

Jackson Merrill's stat line for the season is now very similar to Chourio's so he might be ahead but Chourio getting to 20/20 and defense might be a some noticeable advantages if the OPS' marks stay similar

The kid for the Padres is also likely ahead of Chourio at this point

That's probably true, although it's fairly close. Merrill had an incredible June and is hot right now, but was pretty average for Apr-May and July.

Probably something like a .300+ average and 30 HR’s.  A 30/30 season would also work.

By the definitions set by some on this board that would be considered cherry picking to support a narrative.

I happen to think that pointing out what has happened in the most recent set of games covering a period that long is relevant information.

Would be nice if STL would lose tonight to kind of get more out of this sweep.   I guess regardless they've virtually eliminated Pit making it a 2 team race, so that's something.  But still, its funny the we win and lose at the same time as the Cards trend has continued

16 games over, 101+ run diff, 15-15 since July 1, this series was good for the soul.

Forget the Dodgers, Brewers are three games out of the best record in the NL.
