This sweep is extra sweet because I attended two games last week that they lost to the Braves and heard it from their fans. Keep it going against the Reds now and have a nice homestand for the fans these next ten games.

Chourio went nuclear last year in the pitcher-friendly AA Southern League around this same stretch of time after taking lumps in the season's 1st third.

This is what generational talents do once they settle into a level of competition.

This is one of those sweeps you remember.   Did anyone get the license plate of the Mack truck from Wisconsin thst demolished the braves stadium this week

Would be nice if STL would lose tonight to kind of get more out of this sweep.   I guess regardless they've virtually eliminated Pit making it a 2 team race, so that's something.  But still, its funny the we win and lose at the same time as the Cards trend has continued

They have gotten plenty out of this series regardless of what the Cardinals do.

When you’re ahead just getting days off the calendar without losing ground is a plus. They’ve also hopefully regained some confidence in the offense that has been struggling for the last two months.

I would hesitate to call a team “virtually eliminated” this early. It’s hard to predict what will happen in the mosh pit of mediocrity that is currently in 2nd through 5th place if the Brewers open the door for anyone to move up.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Dillard just mentioned the Braves pitchers AVERAGED over 20 pitches per inning in the series. Love that. Do it in game one, bust up a BP for the duration.

Montas----if he can get breaking stuff over early in the count, I think the cutter is not great but good enough to play off that, and he obviously throws the 4 seamer hard enough. Problem is he really doesn't seem to be set up to pitch that way. And the walks today were disappointing, and a little surprising. A lot of fun to have a day where it didn't really matter.

I hate the Braves. They stole our team and our history, anytime we can shell them once let alone for an entire three game series it brings a smile to my face. Makes the beer taste that much better

This has to be disheartening for the rest of the teams in the division to see the brewers sweep the braves.   I bet they were thinking they could catch up a few games here

The Mets OTOH must be gleeful.

We've had more than our share of injuries to deal with but really, the stuff that's hit ATL this year, both position players & pitching, is unreal. The Metropolitans smell blood.

5+ ERA now, he's certainly on thin ice with the upcoming roster crunch.

The human body is a very intricate thing. You'd be surprised how easy it is to find something wrong with it that's IL-worthy if you look hard enough.

Thus the word "virtually".  9 game lead with 50 to go is incredibly difficult

Well, was there a rookie pitcher the likes of Paul Skenes that year?

In my opinion, there should be a pitching rookie of the year, and an offensive rookie of the year.  Why they don't do it that way is beyond me.

That’s because rookies, like one’s own children, should be seen and not heard. It is bad enough that we give the kids one special award at the end of the year, and here you go wanting to give them TWO? What’s next, pimping home runs and not wearing one in the ribs afterwards? We used to live in a society…

Especially when there are other teams ahead of you or in a similar position that you need to deal with. Far from impossible but.........

One award for each, and participation trophies for all the rest...........🏆

True it is very unlikely, but teams ahead of you is much less of a problem when those teams are closer to you than they are to the team on top.

If any of those 4 teams suddenly wins something like 12 out of 15, the teams that are 2 or 3 games ahead of them now probably wont  be a problem.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yes. If one of the four teams behind Milwaukee finds a way to go on a 12-3 run they'll probably separate from the other three.

I know its tough to crack the negativity and pessimism.  But, lets just say its 50 games now for all teams.  For the one 9 back to win something like this has to happen:  The team that's been good for 110 games goes something like 20-30, which is a big outlier to begin with.  And then the team that's been blah all year has to go 30-20 to win.  Now, both happen at the same time.    If the good team goes just .500 with 25 wins. The other has to go 35-15,which is almost impossible

“I look back and the way my ball is spinning, the way the ball is moving, I think it’s no better or worse than normal,” Morton said. “I think that [the Brewers] are a really good team. The windows for me today weren’t big at all. ... They’re very patient. There wasn’t a lot of chase. There was a lot of deep counts and fouling balls off.”
