Remember, if you throw out the 11-game winning streak, the Brewers had a losing record in July (6-7).

I’m concerned.

Eugenio Suarez has .385 OPS through 13 AB with Seattle I appreciate it has only been three games.

That is lower than Oliver Dunn’s .427 OPS this year in Milwaukee

I'm not going to be overbearing about following and comparing Suarez/McMahon to our 3b the rest of the way... But this was as hostile a trade deadline as I can remember with the demand of a good portion of the fan base for one specific position... So I'll be keeping an eye on it for sure to see how it pans out

Seigler/our 3b did have more hits yesterday than Suarez/McMahon combined for those keeping track..

I should go to the forum suggestions page and recommend we create a pitch by pitch update of all Suarez and McMahon bats for the rest of the season. That way each side can feel validated after every strikeout or extra base hit (depending on your camp) 🙂

While you're at it, I'm gonna also need every possible minor leagure we could have traded for them for the first six years of their MLB career. Even though my opinion changed over the course of the season, I want to be able to prove I was always right.

McMahon 0-4 and 4K today. OPS nearly identical to Durbin.

Suarez: 0-4. His Seattle OPS is now below Vinny Capra for 2025

So you're alright with just winning in the regular season and never contending for a World Series?

Sorry I have higher standards that you! I'd have traded Made and Pena for that Ship!

Brandon Lockridge’s .764 OPS for Milwaukee is higher than every other bat traded at the deadline, minus Willi Castro (min 5 AB).

Castro’s triple only happened due to misplay by Baltimore RF, though.

Durbin OBP: .344

Eugenio Suarez: .319

Durbin has 9th best OBP of any 3B with 250 AB or more this season.

Durbin has 9.5% K rate, which is astonishing to me. Best of any 3B in MLB (minimum 250 AB).

How about we just go for it for once and trade for a bat? It's old news now because we did not.

I pray our corner's are good enough because that's all we can do.

I have faith in Vaughn, that's been an unbelievably good move. But when we get into October are you confident in Ortiz/Durbin?

It would have been nice to have Suarez. We had the minor league players to get that deal done.

We did not as usual.

So if in the next 10 years we win the division 6 times, make the playoffs 8 times, make it to the NLCS 3 times and make 2 world series but never win the whole thing ... are we still not trusting that the FO is doing something right because we don't have a title?

We have literally not been this good of a team since 1982, by record at this point. We had a chance to improve, and we traded for little more than depth, with tons of minor league depth to trade.

Wait, why are we putting Ortiz and Durbin in the same category?

Because they are infielders. It's not that hard.

"We had a chance to improve" = "we had a chance to add a name I have heard of"

Imagine walking up on an artist painting a stunning mural in your town. Something bigger and more beautiful than anything your town had ever seen up to that point... and having the irrational confidence to go tap them on the shoulder to suggest some edits because you use to do water colors in the 6th grade.

And that's basically where the similarities end. B-ref hasn't updated yet for yesterday's game, but entering yesterday Durbin had an OPS+ of 103(and it'll go up since he went 2-2), and has played elite defense at 3B. Ortiz might bring the defense but has an OPS+ of only 63. Durbin has been worth 2.2 bWAR, tied with Isaac Collins, Christian Yelich & Jackson Chourio for 5th on the team. Durbin has been awesome.

I consider myself a rational fan. I am generally very optimistic, and the Brewers are having a season that I am enjoying immensely. However, it is possible to see the Priester and Vaughn trades as wins. Getting Woodruff back and inserting Mis into the rotation have been beautiful. While the FO gets credit for all that, the trade deadline is a distinct event. It is one last look at your team and determining if it can be improved. I think it is a diversion to point to previous good moves as de facto deadline moves ("We made our deadline move with the Civale trade", for example). I believe that a Willi Castro would have been an upgrade from Siegler. And they could have had it all. They chose not to. Doesn't diminish my fandom to point out my disappointment that they didn't do more. In fact, they seem to be so good at these decisions, that I want them to do more.

Shelby Miller's ability to get healthy and contribute is how I will grade this deadline.

Your points are fair and rational. I think the Brewers, Arnold especially, do an exceptional job also of weighing ‘improving the team - at what cost?’

Milwaukee quietly identifies what it wants and acts when they believe it makes sense to act.

Agreed. I can accept that they did the cost/benefit analysis, and they decided no more moves was the best move.
