My lineup would be frelick Chourio yelich Vaughn. Contreras collins Turang.   Durbin Ortiz.    You can substitute the 5-7 hitters in any order

OK with me, the pinch hitter if needed would be Perkins.

Jose Quintana versus Spencer Strider has got to be one of the better "different ways to the same spot" pitching match ups you could get.

Both are among 83 pitchers with at least 400 IP since 2022, here are some of their rankings...

Strider (405 IP | 81st)
159 K+ (1st) | 100 BB+ (64th) | 78 HR+ (14th)
83 AVG+ (2nd) | 84 WHIP+ (7th) | 101 LOB+ (48th)
68 FIP- (2nd) | 83 ERA- (16th)
11.4 fWAR (16th) | 8.9 rWAR (39th)

Quintana (499 IP | 44th)
84 K+ (69th) | 97 BB+ (59th) | 75 HR+ (13th)
100 AVG+ (39th) | 98 WHIP+ (47th) | 105 LOB+ (14th)
97 FIP- (47th) | 84 ERA- (17th)
7.0 fWAR (48th) | 10.1 rWAR (32nd)

So Strider strikes out more batters than anyone, and is the second hardest to get a hit off of, yet his run prevention is barely better than Quintana who is pretty much average or below at everything across the board except limiting home runs and stranding base runners.

Believe this largely a function of Strider being so much worse out of the stretch versus the wind up. Couldn't find specific splits, but for his career he's allowed an OPS 111 points higher with runners on versus bases empty. League average this year is an OPS 29 points higher with runners on versus bases empty. For Quintana's career he's allowed an OPS one point higher with runners on versus bases empty.

Put it all together and of the 83 pitchers with at least 400 IP on that 2022-now leaderboard Quintana's -0.52 gap between his ERA and FIP is tied for the best right way differential while Strider's +0.74 gap is the largest in the wrong direction.

I think combining the stats for the pre injury Strider of 2022-2023 with those of 2025 (and his two bad outings in 2024 before he shut down) produces a picture of a pitcher that never existed.

Maybe someday he will return to the form of the 2022 ROY runnerup and 2023 CYA contender, but he hasn't been there this year. Just a look at simple numbers like WHIP and K/9 tells us that.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

What would your lineup be? Just curious.

DH 1992 Molitor, SS 1982 Yount, LF 2011 Braun, 1B 2009 Prince, RF 2018 Christian Yelich, C 2014 Lucroy, 3B 1970 Tommy Harper, 2B 1992 Pat Listach, CF 2019 Lo Cain. Jaime Cocanower SP.

I mean, you know my earlier post wasn't serious, right? "Fanny-pack waffle" should have been a clue.

Which season's Cocanower?

And also, how on earth do you pass up the opportunity to start Milwaukee legend Nick Neugebauer?????

Btw.   How fun has it been looking forward to the brewers game every night.   Probably should enjoy since it this kind of run won’t happen again

All of the pieces coming together like this is extremely rare, but we don’t exactly lose a ton of free agents.  Pretty much can run it back next year again.

You gotta hit Harper ahead of Lucroy & play hit & run☺️.

As for tonite, Albies has had mucho success vs Quintana so that's something to keep an eye on.

Watching the plate discipline from Collins, Vaughn & Durbin has been so much fun.

Is the cubs pitching good enough to win multiple 1-0 games?      Maybe the wind is blowing in

I just allowed myself to imagine the cool night air and steady breeze coming in from the opened roof and panels in the NLCS against the Cubs.

That actually might be kinda gross - Cubs fans taking over Am Fam in a playoff series.  I mean, it's bad enough during the regular season but could you imagine half or more than half of the stadium filled with Cubs fans during a playoff series?  That would drive me to insanity.

Waaaayy fewer Brewer fans would be willing to sell their seats.

Welcome back, Sal! And Siegler.

A batting order that includes Yelich, Contreras, Frelick & a guy averaging well over an RBI per game over the last few weeks------and Collins is hitting third. Who had THAT on April 1st?

Don't underestimate the "frugalness" of Wisconsinites.

The only other colors you'll need to worry about seeing in the stands are green and gold.

And if it's on a Sunday and the Packers are at home...

Collins looked a little irritated. Not sure if with himself for a bad jump or with Yelich for not making contact on a designed hit and run.

I feel like Strider is going to dominate us tonight. Quintana, not so much.

Yeah, I've kind of had a bad feeling about this game all day. I hope I'm wrong and we score a bunch of runs and Quintana shuts 'em down as well.

Whelp, that's not a great start. Bad 0-2 pitch and we're down 1-0.

Edit: Actually, not horrible, but still got the plate. I'd rather he bury one or throw a FB high.

I know it’s become cliche to criticize the lineups when Seigler is in it, but let me put this another way.

Durbin has been improving throughout the season, particularly against right handed pitching. He’s too good to all of the sudden find himself on the weak end of a platoon and has earned better than that.
