Brewers-Cubs NLDS Game Five Thread - 10/11/2025 @ 7:08PM - For those Assuming a WIN!

Posted

I’m so fired up for Miz and Patrick—absolutely phenomenal stuff from the rooks.

And Brice, after so many ugly Ks to have that huge shot late to double the lead—it may not have normalized my blood pressure, but every little bit helps!

And what more can you say about Vaughn? It’s the kind of player I thought only happens to the Cardinals, so it’s nice to be on this side of things for once.

And finally, I’m pretty impressed with the optimists around here. Your confidence was definitely rewarded tonight, and I couldn’t be happier.

What a massive win for the whole organization and the fan base. That’s a top 5 sports moment for me. Unbelievable!

I wanted the Cubs because I thought it was the better matchup, but also because I knew it could produce a moment like this.

i had my doubts after game 4, but damn this feels good.

I wouldn't be opposed to replacing him with Myers on the NLCS roster.

Nah, you can't go away from Ashby.

He had a bad game facing the top of the Cubs order and giving up a pitch up and out of the zone to their hottest hitter for a 3R HR... but he's been one of your best pitchers all year.

Myers should replace Gasser on the post-season roster.

He was perfect in his first game, there was an error that led to a run in his 3rd game and then he came up with one of the best pitches of the game to get Tucker on the strikeout there.

And he wasn't sharp. But you definitely need him vs the Dodgers.

Ashby can't through strikes and when he does he gets hit. He is a mess.

No he's not. He's fine. He wasn't super sharp this series and the Cubs jumped on him in the game he started... but he'll be fine.

NOBODY would have trusted Misiorowski the days before the series. Same thing. You only have a couple of arms with overpowering stuff.

You can't keep him off the roster because we used him in the biggest spots and he wasn't giving in. He overpowered their best hitter(though not best hitter in the series) and got the biggest out.

Ashby is a bigger lock to be on the roster than almost anyone else.

IF we pull off an upset, it's going to take Myers, Misiorowski, Patrick, Ashby... and of course Peralta and Priester to throw the ball well. Probably Quintana as well. So basically the guys who carried us in this series(Miz, Priester and...Quintana pitched well) and then a couple guys who struggled... Peralta in 1 of the 2 outings, Ashby was not sharp and Priester... who I'm gonna guess starts Gm1...though could be Quintana.

But you can't put too much weight into a couple of rough outings for a guy who's been there all year.

--I haven't heard where DL Hall is. He could also be a big addition to the NlCS roster. He and Myers. In a perfect world, those two plus Hoskins are on the roster. Lockridge, Gasser and... one more player are of. Not sure who that'd be or if Hall is even an option.

They also need better ABs from Turang, Frelick(who started having better ABs) and Yelich. Those three will be huge.

It'll be a big of an upset, but... we've both handled the Dodgers this year and we've been on the wrong side of some tough luck playoff series. About time to turn that around.

Getting that first Series win since 2018 off their backs is huge. 4 wins from the WS.

Brewers have won eight straight games against the Dodgers dating back to August 14, 2024

10:42 PM · Oct 11, 2025

Is this True?

Yeah... I don't think that means much for this series, but you can go look at their 2024 record.

Lost 2 of 3.
Split a 4 game series, won the last 2
Won all 6 this year vs them. 8 in a row.

Remember that we thought one of the disadvantages of playing the Cubs versus the Padres was that it would nullify a lot of the home field advantage? As it turned out, HFA was EVERYTHING this series.

We aren’t moving on if we weren’t the ones at home 3 times. I’m certain of that. These teams are so evenly matched. 9-9 this year I believe.

Great to see what we did in the regular season pay off and matter in the playoffs.

Yelich and woodruff owe this franchise now this postseason.     The city of Milwaukee have been good to them.     It’s time to show up and get us to a World Series.

Woody's season is over. It was all but confirmed by the organization. Probably his Brewers career too, if not his baseball career.

If Henderson is 100% healthy and throwing the ball well in his bullpens, I’m taking him over Myers. Just better stuff.

I am still very concerned with Aaron Ashby to be quite honest. He's pitched: 4.2 innings and gave up 5 hits, 4 walks and 4 runs charged to him.  Or is he just the real life Rickie Vaughn from Major league "Wild Thing?"

I think the only thing that was disappointing to me last night was the fact that Tim Allen and the postgame show wasn’t on. Lit up my victory cigar on the patio and tuned into 97.3 only to hear some sorry-assed post presser from Luke Fickel. Like seriously?!

A lot of people wanted him gone, but the organization always knew what they had.

They knew he had the stuff, but he needed to mature emotionally.

I thought BA and Darling? I kinda tuned out when they said Darling.

Darling said it'd be a three-man booth - probably BA, Francouer and Darling.

What a win! I actually watched 8 full innings. Went for a walk, came back to a victory celebration. Glad I didn't have to watch Abner fall 2-0 behind to Suzuki.

Some thoughts:

1) This was a game decided by the players. Each manager had a call or two that was tough. Murph could've PH for Joey, but that's such a fine margin call. No problem with him sticking with him, and it didn't hurt them. CC had Imanaga warming early, I think for a left on left matchup that never materialized, and then he just didn't feel comfortable with the guy in the game. Maybe that mattered to the Turang AB, maybe not. More than anything, just shows how little trust they had in Shota down the stretch.

2) We pitched great. Even Ashby knuckled down and got the K of Tucker after a shaky start. Good call by Murph to just give him 3 hitters. Abner got some nice BABIP luck and wasn't dominant, but he got six fairly low-stress outs in a stress hell environment. Megill starting proved a good call.

3) Some unsung heroes for me are Durbin and Frelick. On base 5 times between them, stole a base, played good to better than good defense, just really putting in the work. Maybe no direct payoff, but those guys contributed.

4) And we hit 3 homers, including one from a lefty. I was wrong about Yelich. But Turang came through.

5) Obviously, we all want more. But, man, is some of the stress off. Same score as 163, and it's right there as an all-time rivalry win. Feels like we validated something, even to people like me who believe a lot of this is random. I am confident in this: we played well enough to win game. They got some lucky breaks (Yeli's liner in the first, William's scalded double-play, etc.), and so did we (Hoerner's eighth inning line-out feels like the biggest play of the game). It's good to play well and get the right bounces. You need it in October.

6) Plenty of time to discuss the Dodgers. But my early vote is you roll out Priester and Freddy and say let's go. Two best guys all year, at home, and they're on full rest.

You never know when these things turn around for a franchise on October. I don't know if they've turned completely for us. But I know you can't win big series without winning games like that. We did it! Let's keep playing good baseball.

Uribe giving us two innings in length is an underrated part of this win that he is not getting enough credit for.

Uribe is almost exclusively a 1 inning guy and has only gone 2 innings once since 2023.

But he took the ball with a slim lead and with reminders of last year in our head, he gave us no drama whatsoever, shutting the door soundly on the Cubs with two innings that were low stress enough that I would expect him to be available on Monday and Tuesday.
