I will be surprised if Jett isn’t in the bigs opening day or at the very least early in the season……

I think they will delay bringing him up and he will be brought up for an injury ineffectiveness pretty early.

Could be…..my main point was he is going to be using a 40 man spot early in the season…..I think they are counting on him to be a contributor early in 2026 or they wouldn’t have made the trade.

Not mad at all. Just being honest. Brewers are not as good today as they were yesterday. Sorry for caring about winning now.

This is true if Peralta finishes next year top 5 in the Cy Young again and we get no improvement from any of our 32 big league arms under the age of 26.

Or...

A full season of Patrick, Miz, Henderson, Ashby, Gasser, etc all combine to replace him in the aggregate and we no longer have to give OF at bats to Daz Cameron and Drew Avans, etc and POSSIBLY upgraded Ortiz so our short term is stabilized while our long term is healthier.

Both things could be true. Is it really more fun living with the first mindset when you don't know which one is going to be true?

I will agree that the future still appears bright and hopefully Jett will be a guy that can help. I hate trading big league starting pitching. The most valuable resource in baseball. The other thing is we might as well start the Woody trade at the deadline countdown if he's pitching well. Can't resign him Can't let him walk blah blah.

Can Jett play a legit short as a hedge for Ortiz? Wasn’t my expectation but would love to hear more.

I have suspected all along we take a shot at Montgomery on a prove it deal.   That might be another arm for numbers for rotation possibilities.

I will say, I have always thought Myers was underrated but you’ve got to find a solution sometimes to come to terms.

The advantage of being small market is that you can leverage big teams who have to win the press conference. Our FO decided long ago that the press conference does not matter. That gets you a trade like this, which is massive controllable upside for one-year of top-tier SP (Freddy may not be ELITE, but he's really, really good and durable) and a Myers, who is....a guy. A guy I like. But not someone you can't find or re-create.

Doesn't mean this will work out, but the team is making a play to be at the top of the Central and in playoff contention for multiple years. It's re-opening the window. You can like that philosophy or not in terms of its playoff impact, but the team has thought about it, committed to it, and made moves consistent with it for a while now.

Way better return than I thought.

Maybe he take Monasterio job as backup everywhere guy? Speed off the bench.

I saw somewhere that Sproat had a tale of two halves in AAA last year and it looks like that was true.

First half of his AAA season - .261/.365/.402 opponent slash, 15.6% K-rate, 11.6% BB-rate, 22.5% whiff rate, 88.2 Avg EV, 35.8% hard hit, 5.2% barrel rate

Second half of his AAA season - .165/.254/.248 opponent slash, 30.2% K-rate, 9.1% BB-rate, 29.5% whiff rate, 86.8 Avg EV, 29.9% hard hit, 3.6% barrel rate

I'd assume Ortiz is on notice.

That a good point but Jett won’t be there long either with made and Pratt on the horizon

Considering they are already drowning in small, lighter hitting players and / or INF prospects, it seems like they could have packaged redundant prospect capital and Freddy for a proven MLB high quality bat. Do they need another 5 foot 7 inch young guy that bad? I like Arnold, but I'm critical of this much more than other moves. They need proven MLB HITTERs, or at least dudes with a frame that can grow and put on muscle. Not another small guy who probably can't hit with power at the big boy level. Perplexing.

Which ones were offered to us for Freddy that we turned down for Williams, et?

Why would an MLB team trade a proven high quality MLB bat for 1 year of Freddy Peralta and prospects? The whole concept of a team trading for 1 year of a SP is that they are trying to win in that one season. That makes it counter-intuitive to trade a proven high quality hitter from your roster. It's just not logical.

Appreciate all the great, informative comments here!

I am definitely sad to see Freddy go. He came here as a teenager and grew up in the organization. He was a wild one at first, but in recent years he developed enough control to go scoreless inning after scoreless inning. Sure, he frustrated us by throwing two strikes and then somehow managing to get it to a full count almost every time. But he is a competitor and was a great Brewer. Best of luck to him, except when he is playing us.

The number of shortstops that are as short as Williams is very small, Shortstop has become the domain of 6 foot tall guys.  That could mean Williams is moving to 2B.  Which makes sense since that won't block Lara or Pratt (Pratt has to worry more about not getting bumped back down to AA by Made).

Matt Arnold really does have a short man fetish...

Overall I can't be too upset. I wanted Baty and Sproat once they signed Bichette but I also didn't think Matt had another short stuff trade in him. I was wrong.

Like I really thought everyone here would be in love with this. It’s a versatile top 30 prospect with control, pop, speed, and can get on base. He can probably be either a super sub or be an immediate upgrade from Joey.  And a fringe top 100 pitcher.

I don’t get how anyone can possibly be disappointed. It’s Myers plus a year of Freddy. We were never going to re-sign him. What was anyone expecting? This is the literal highest of high expectation that I thought we could get.

We could have traded Freddy for Shohei and at least 2 people would hate it because of his contract.

I think this is underwhelming for Peralta. The Brewers needed to get a big bat to play OF or SS. Williams isn't anywhere close to that. He offers nothing that Milwaukee doesn't already have an abundance of: little guys with almost no power who can play multiple positions. Certainly nowhere near the bat that they needed. Sproat looks to be a middle to bottom of the rotation type pitcher. He can maybe get a spot in the rotation, but the trade does absolutely nothing for the Crew this year.

If Williams had the same numbers in the minors last year but was 6'2 would that be ok? Sounds like we are selling jeans here. That being said, I too had an idea of what Freddy would return and it didn't involve these two or the Mets...

I mean, an upgrade from what Ortiz offers from a batting perspective is not a very difficult bar to clear. And isn’t super sub basically just a utility guy, but slightly fancier?

I hope the pop he has shown in the minors is legit and translates well to the MLB.

In the last year of Yuniesky Betancourt's career he played in 137 games at 6 positions and had 409 plate appearances for the 2013 Brewers. Sadly, he was the worst player in baseball but had YB had talent and upside, those numbers would probably not have led to that losing season. Bottom line, there is value in super subs if they have skill.
