just food for thought: similar trade deadline deals since the CC trade.

Obviously some differentiating factors between these trades and a theoretical Skubal trade.

If we were putting together a comparable package with our current player group you’re probably looking at something like Peña + 2-3 other interesting prospects.

The Dodgers will outbid anybody for Skubal let’s be real, they do not care. Even though they’re gonna sign him in December anyways. They have 5 guys in the MLB pipeline top 25 and probably would have that same amount again by this time in 2028 after a potential 2027 lockout. So Arnold will not do it, and that’s fine.

Mark my words, if the Dodgers land Skubal they wont resign him - not in December and not ever....because the rest of baseball will be willing to miss as many regular seasons as needed to fully share broadcast revenue and implement a salary cap that will force the Dodgers to actually cut or trade players from their existing roster to get under the future cap.

No CBA in place after this league year ends means no offseason to sign any free agents, either

If some of these proposed trades are the market right now, trade Miz to the Dodgers for all of their top 10 prospects.

The Dodgers are the media darlings of baseball. They’ll be chirping about how we should simply trade Miz for a bag of balls and a thank you note because the Dodgers were gracious enough to gaze in our direction.

Unless it's just me not seeing it embed, it's helpful to not just link to something but actually show what it is:

I agree, that feels more like the right idea. You may or may not like it/do it, but it doesn't seem crazy like some (looking at you, Steve Phillips).

Screw Skubal if the Brewers trade Pena I would prefer it to be for Greene instead as he is now rumored to be available in a trade.

I'd hate to trade Pena to the Reds, then in a couple years, we'd get to watch him mash us to pieces on the regular...

That's a deal I could live with. I'd still prefer to go after more controllable players instead, or somewhat cheaper rentals, but it's the kind of deal that doesn't really hurt us in the short term. I like both Ragsdale and Fischer, but Brewers have other power-hitting corner IF (Made if he stays at 3B, Adams and Burke, and others further way), and both no immediate OF need (Lara and Chourio for the long term, Mitchell for the next few years) and other good OF prospects (Adamczewski, Payne, Frias etc).

I can't bring myself to trade Fischer for a rental - I know he's got swing and miss warts but the rest of his offensive profile in his 1st professional season at 3rd or 1B in a year or two in Milwaukee would be unreal to have.  If Fischer were part of a trade for a Mason Miller, I could get behind that.

I want Skubal and Miller - and I think if the Brewers were serious about going after both they could readily put packages together that we both wouldn't mind seeing go and other organizations vying for those arms couldn't match.  That's how damn good the Brewers' farm system is right now.

Those comments are stupid. Like in any negotiation the initial demand is huge and the initial offer is tiny.  There’s zero chance they keep Skubal if they’re planning to sell Mize. So it’s all just nonsense until they pull the trigger on Monday.
