Glad he's not retiring. I'd bet he signs a deal with the Brewers in ST next year and goes right to the 60 Day IL.

Woody has been a dawg. He has been an amazing Brewer and done great things for us. I hope he can enjoy his bobblehead day today. We should tip our caps to him. You can't control injuries and they suck. Best of luck in the rehab and future, going to be tough to get back to it but he is still only 33. We have seen a endless examples of a 35 year old pitcher reinventing themselves. If he wants to keep pitching for the love of it, maybe he comes cheap.

Bummer. The guy was really good even without the velocity. I'll be curious to see what kind of deal he gets next year.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

The phrasing Murphy used yesterday did make me think that he might be hanging it up.

I think we all knew he likely needed another surgery since it was reported that he had a new injury on the shoulder.

for his sake, I hope he makes it back. For our sake, I hope it’s with the Brewers. As callous as it may be to discuss today, I think if he is interested in doing this with the Brewers it will be for much less money than it was the first time he needed surgery.

How do I say this without coming off as an insensitive douche?

It's over. He's a 33-year-old oft injured pitcher the past three seasons and will be 35 when he'll allegedly be ready to pitch again. It's time to move on. A team like the Brewers can't afford to continue to spend money on players that won't be on the field.

I get the want to keep playing. I get it's hard to say goodbye. I just don't understand why a guy who has made good money is going to go under the knife again only with no idea he's gonna be able to get back. I hope the Brewers are smart enough to walk away. He's taken a ton of resources and had a great carrer. Brewers have to move forward. It would be like resigning Yelich at this point.

He said something in his presser today "Whether it's now or whether it's when I'm 50 I'm going to have to have this surgery again"...

If that is true then I understand the thinking of getting it done now when you are younger and can heal faster... and if you can make it through and still have something to offer the league - I think it makes sense to have his mindset now with intent.

I guess I don't see the harm... If he comes back for the '28 season and takes an invite contract to prove himself and then it converts to a low guarantee, high performance bonus major league deal if he makes the team .. that doesn't cripple anyone. If he can't throw then he can retire.

It would seem to be in his best interest to rehab with the Brewers. I hope they can do another 2 year contract with performance escalators for year 2. It actually might work out decently if there is a work stopage next season.

I am very appreciative of Woody's career. The Brewers can't take the 2 year gamble.  40 man roster spots are about to get extremely tight and valuable.  Holding him over the offseason will be a detriment.  Walk of Fame when he's done. Coaching job when he wants it, but it's just not smart to resign him.

Holding onto him over the off-season while there is no 60 day IL is a point I didn’t consider. Wouldn’t matter much if the idea was to sign him just before the start of next season, but then you gotta have him occupy a 40 man spot all of the following off season (presuming it’s a 2 year deal hoping he can pitch at some point in 2028).

id have to look more into what the roster projection looks like for the off-season following 2027 to see how much of a handicap it would be.

My gut tells me he's got nobody to sign and rehab with since there will be a lockout that could leak into a strike-shortened 2027 season.

Ill say this with the absolute best intentions, because i love Woody....if he signs another MLB contract, great for him - but it better not be with the Brewers.

I dont think any of that planning stuff for roster management is worth it given a very high likelihood ther isnt a normal offseason with the CBA issues going on.
