Trade Deadline Ideas Thread

Aaron Ashby pitches ONE or less innings and his ERA the past month is 6.75 totally unacceptable for a playoff team.  He has been detrimental to the Brewers the past month or more.  I would be 100% in favor of trading Ashby in a deal involving another pitcher.

Sure, but the overarching point was that he's blocked in the infield unless a glut of injuries or washouts occur. He's not beating out SS Pratt, 3B Made, 2B Turang, 1B/DH Burke, Fischer. With such a high prospect rank, he's likely too talented to waste as a utility infielder. Probably headed to the OF.

It’s Murphy’s fault as well as Hook/Henderson’s fault for allowing the organization to use Ashby and his body as a baseball scientific experiment.   Ashby is to blame as well as he agreed to it… but come on Crew…what did you think was going to happen when you pitch a guy nearly every game.  How do you think his arm/shoulder is going to be?   Either trade him and get something for him before he throws his arm off or put him on the IR for a week or two to rest.   Unreal!!   Murphy better not use him in the playoffs like he did last year.  I will be disgusted if he does.

If you want to improve more than marginally at the deadline, you have to give up value. I had viewed Pena is a surplus prospect piece that had that value. I've changed my view. It's clear the team has too many holes again to fix with a "more than modest but not quite blockbuster" trade or two. If they do anything, they should probably trade for a decent, durable starting veteran pitcher just to get through the season and keep developing in house for post lockout. I could very much see them bringing Freddy back, continuing the summer of entertainment approach.

I get that is a lot of not much but Wilken and O'Rae would likely be top 10 (O'Rae maybe top 5) and the rest around 20. Just throwing stuff around.

I do this all the time but it is Darrien Miller. That other guy was like 15 years ago...no biggie.

I like the guys that you have listed for King, but I don't think that quantity wins this and its a lot for their 40 man (Rule V considerations and all) next year to absorb.

I have been looking at this as who will most likely be playing once the mutual option on Yelich is denied in 2029. Does Arnold et al view Fischer as a Huira/Gallo with the strikeouts? Won't Made be at 3B if not Fischer...maybe LPena. Maybe Fischer is at 1B with/instead of BBurke. It will be Turang's last year and maybe Ebel or Pena will be at 2B. For now its Pratt at SS but others can project there. Catcher is Quero, Dinges, DMiller or someone not in the organization now. Churio in LF, Payne in CF, Lara or Arias in RF. Ragsdale apparently wants to be considered as an option.

Tons of active pitchers will be here after Yelich is gone and the new ones too. For this exercise pitchers are harder to project and easier to acquire. As long as you are not giving up a easily projectable top of the rotation ace, the options are many...so how does Arnold et al view Letson? 

Oh yeah, we also have a few draft classes to make up for top 10 prospects securing an ace for this years team that actually hits and pitches pretty well. 

So I am ok with some sort of a combination of Josh AdamOutfielder, Ricky Money$, Knoth, Hardin, maybe Letson, or Jett, as I want a push for a RING and not just a summer of entertaining baseball. Josh is not phasing out Jackson, Jett would be nice but we have others in the OF and INF. Hardin will be forgotten like Reese Olsen and others will fill the rotation (looking at you Manuel Rodriguez) and life will go on...

But man, o man...go spend some top 10s on Skubal and get a ring.

what do we think of Trevor Rogers as a target?

Lefty that's a poor man's Reid Detmers.... I'd prefer Detmers, but as wiguy has pointed out, Detmers has already flown by his innings total from last year so who knows how much more he has left in the tank.

Rogers could be an alternative?

Sure, to a degree.  It was said last year already he was the weakest at D of the group and very likely to go to the OF because of it, which is fine.  But most importantly Turang is gone in a few years, that lines up very well for Pena who is 19 and still A.  The questionable point being Turang's last year with some possible overlap, but there is a huge chance Turang is traded before that year since his arb will be so high and they should be able to get a huge haul for him.  And for all we know the CBA could take a year off of control.    That said, yea if you're getting the level of player that absolutely requires an elite prospect that he's the one who would have to go.

That’s actually an interesting idea. With potentially three years left in his contract Ashby is a controllable reliever which is always in demand

Further his guarantee for next year is $8.7M,   I doubt the Brewers intend to carry that kind of salary in 2027 for a non-elite reliever anyway.
