The silver lining for me was Martinez going multiple innings yesterday and Cash not pitching Rasmussen Game 1. They really should have Rasmussen in Game 5 and to make matters worse they had to burn their presumed starter yesterday to win.

I started to think they should start Rasmussen on short rest, but that just makes an ugly pitching situation in MIl. I think they have to just pray a horrible pitching situation today can eek out a win so they have Rasmussen/Peralta on normal rest in Milwaukee.

When you think about it, you see why teams just never come back when down 3-0.

Yeah TB has their own pitching woes which probably are worse than ours.  Not starting Ras in GM1 being #1 and using Martinez for a couple innings, and their closer for a couple puts then in a real pickle for today.  And if they use Ras or Peralta today, then that will have spill over consequences for potential Gm 6/7.

I'm not feeling real good today, but still would rather be us than them.

Running on about 4 hours sleep and feeling like I went through all the stages of grief with this team after one World Series loss, which is obviously not the appropriate or emotionally healthy response. Yesterday, before the game, I posted about the dark part of me that I think will always exist until we win a World Series. Today I'm thinking about John Candy's great line in Cool Runnings: "A gold medal is wonderful thing, but if you're not enough without it, you'll never be enough with it." Gotta remember that. This means a lot, but it can't mean everything.

I'm also trying to remind myself that this is supposed to be fun. That was a great baseball game last night. The Rays did enough to win. Both teams made mistakes. They punished us just a little bit more. I like that team, I like their fans, and they deserved it.

I don't know what tonight holds. Nobody does. I'm going to try not to think at all about baseball until first pitch. Hope we take care of business, but, if not, that's life.

Honestly I was cringing every time I heard someone talk about historical greatness yesterday.  The team played like that got in their heads a bit.  This is a really good team and good enough to win a world series.

But so is TB.  So they need to play better than them (they didn't last night) or TB will be world series champs.

Think it's going to be Rasmussen tonight, Cash said they're having "conversations" about it.

They are going to have to make tough choices going forward due to a bad decision not to start Ras for GM1.  Need to take advantage of that.

I'm not sure what other choice they have. It is either throw the ace on 3 day's rest or pin your season on a bullpen game, which if it is close, you are probably bringing in Rasmussen anyway.

They've babied Rasmussen all season, with planned missed starts and longer rest between starts. And rightfully so, given his extensive serious injury history. He's NEVER started on short rest in his career.

But this is the World Series, and they are facing elimination. And given the state of their pitching staff, they likely don't have a choice. But this decision probably stands a bigger shot of blowing up in their face than actually working out.

The thing is, their path to victory requires winning all 3 games, so either someone is going on short rest at some point or there's a BP game. It still may be the right decision to go Rasmussen now given the extra inning game last night, but even if you assume a Rasmussen and Peralta victory (which I sure wouldn't), you still have one more W to get somehow.

I would think Martinez would go in game 7 if it gets there but yes, they have some hard decisions.  I was talking to someone walking out the stadium that was adamant that Mis should have pitched and then start Harrison today.  I think Murph is doing a good job of putting the Rays in a position to make reactionary decisions rather than proactive decisions.

Really the Rays path to victory is four in a row.  Sure, they won the first of the four, but it took everything they had.

The pitching yesterday was incredible and the offense obliterated like 12 baseballs for outs.

I don’t know, they played a good game.

.. and it's numbers at this point. Could Miz have closed it last night and won it all? Possibly/probably/maybe?

But we have our ace now against maybe their 'compromised' ace. If they get through this tip of the cap. We have two more home games against Freddy (who we have beaten badly twice this year) and then probably Martinez again. Not to mention their bullpen is compromised badly as well.

The odds are overwhelmingly in our favor. As much as it would have been easy to pull the trigger on Miz to do it ... the safest move was letting the hands play out last night and leaning on them now the rest of the series.

But the BP won't even be needed tonight.  Miz finally gets a start on "normal" rest.  His control will be back and we are going to see the ACE blossom.  Eight dominant innings, hand off to Megill = shutout.

Game, Set, Match.

I'm predicting full immortality with a "Maddux" no hitter

If I'm the Rays, I think the best play for their pitching is to start a guy that if everything goes well can get you through the lineup once without too much damage, and then see how Miz is pitching - if the game is within a run or you have a small lead, you then go to Rasmussen and hope he can give you 3-4 innings on short rest and give the Rays a chance to score on a tiring Miz/situational relievers mid game.  I don't like starting Rasmussen for them because if he gets into early trouble it'd be a much quicker than normal hook for him and then theyre screwed.

If the Rays somehow build a big enough lead early, then they keep Rasmussen/Peralta for games 6 and 7.

Miz can erase all our angst by dominating for 6+ and letting the Brewers plate a few runs on anyone the Rays send out.  I just dont see Rasmussen making a start on 3 days rest and giving them a dominant enough start to match that.

I think Tampa is going to take tonight. I think Miz is running out of steam. The hot takes are going to be nauseating as far as him not being "the guy" but I just think he's battled past capacity. I like our chances to close it out on Friday. Just that Tampa is a good team and I think they'll protect their turf on life support.

This is exactly how I feel.  His tank is on E.  It’s why I asked what the emergency plan is.   He’s not the pitcher he was earlier in the season. His last outing was fine but he’s really had to grind through these games.  I can easily see a scenario where the Rays foul off a ton of pitches again and Miz is out around the 4th.  I sure as hell hope this isn’t the case.

It's also why I wouldn't have considered him to close. He's never done it. It's not the same thing as starting. He isn't getting the strikeouts that he was and he's been laboring, I completely understand Murphy's logic in almost everything he did last night.

There's a question to be asked of what made Harrison/Woodruff better than Chad Patrick. That's my only gripe thus far.

Hopefully the boys have the same pissy feeling I have right now. These next 6+ hours of waiting are annoying. I just want to get back on the field and throw first pitch. Miz for 5. Romero for 1. Uribe for 1. Hall for 1. Megill for 1. Parade on Monday. B2A.

I was at the game, in basically an entire Brewer fan section.  I didnt get home until almost 3.  The pratt HR was the best moment Ive had as a fan at a game, probably since my first game as a kid.  I thought I was about to watch them win the WS in person.  Blowing that game I left the stadium a little angry at first but mostly letdown and numb about the whole thing. I still feel the same way.  I weirdly have no desire to even watch tonight (could change).  I dont know what the healthy or appropriate emotional response is.  I feel almost no emotion.    I came here out of habit when I went to kill time on my phone.

A few years ago I had basically a "covid reset" and started treating sports like any other TV show, outside of the Brewers.  Packers about to lose a playoff game?  "Oh well, maybe I could find a good documentary on", chang the channel and never think of it.  I may have just come to that with baseball too.  Oh well, hope they win, and I hope y'all revel in it.
