Pineapples on pizza is blasphemous!

I know people like it, but the thought of it is just not right.

Carry on.

I know pineapple on pizza is a love it or hate it thing but I really am indifferent to it. It doesn't bother me, nor is it my favorite. I'll eat it.

The deal was four toppings - one more meat would be too greasy and hard on the gut, one more veggie would be too much veggie. I don't like mushrooms - the cheap ones they put on pizza make me want to barf - and peppers pretty much do make me barf. Onions don't work for me with pizza either.

It sounds strange, and I don't like pineapple when it's the only topping (or a Hawaiian pizza with just ham and pineapple), but it really balances out the pizza when it is one of several toppings, especially when one of them is spinach.

I don't mind pineapple.

There's a place in Anchorage that used to make a killer pizza that had pancetta, caramelized onions, cream cheese, jalapenos and strawberries on it. Sounded strange but was amazing.

I too still have a soft spot for Rocky's, although I haven't had it in many years. The corner pieces were the best.

It is still there! We've never stopped because we pass it basically on the way to ballgames, but it is still there. I think the sign says Since 1957.

I'd be reminiscent as a Brewers fan who watches the game on TV to not acknowledge Pizza Ranch in a discussion about pizza places.

Reticent?

I thought about mentioning Pizza hut as a joke...

I'm thinking "remiss."

So, I grew up in Monroe in the 1980s, when Pizza Hut was the bomb. Now it's only a gut bomb. *rimshot*

Nowadays, the SO is diabetic and is reluctant to go overboard on pizza, and I'm not likely to order a full pie for myself. But - the original Ian's location on Frances in Madison is a 5 minute walk away from our libraries and we both enjoy a slice or two there.

For SO to opt for frozen pizza at home, he pretty much needs a nutrition label to make sure it doesn't whack out his carb count, so we most often get Di Giorno. Not in bulk or anything.

Earlier in our time in Madison, we lived near the first Pizza Extreme location, and used to regularly get their taco pizza. That was a good pie. There's no way SO would eat that much carbness in one meal anymore, and again, I'm not ordering a full pie for myself. But there are times I'd opt for that taco pizza again if it were practical. Another location is not far from our current house, so I experience no shortage of temptations.

Rocky's...is a pie I got tired of after the fall semester 1985, when I ordered a sausage slice every Monday and Wednesday before I went to work at my college library gig. We more often go for the salad bar, which for that kind of establishment is more solid than you'd think. I do like Rocky's breadsticks, though.

Remiss.

That's the word I was looking for. Its been a long week.

Rocky's has nice sausage.

Thirsty Pagan has blazing hot spicy sausage on theirs.

This thread is great. Having moved to the Milwaukee area about a year and a half ago, this helps a bit when looking for new places to try.

You know to be honest I actually really like the thin crust at Pizza Hut, no shame. The outer crust is arguably some of the best I have ever eaten and I just can't go wrong getting a pepperoni lovers. Overall it may not be great, but I just have to get it occasionally for those crusty filled bites at the end of every slice. My comparable to toppers sticks is the bread bites at Dominos...they are like gold nuggets of goodness.

I like to get Neapolitan pizza sometimes, but that is a type of pizza pretty void in Wisconsin.

The Taco Pizza at Pizza Hut is so awesome, the best imo.

Taco pizza by other places with pizza sauce just isn't the same as what Pizza Hut does. They do re fried beans instead of the pizza sauce, and it is delicious.

The Pizza Huts in the Fox Valley no longer do Taco Pizza. When I go back to Platteville to visit the parents, that is when I get my Pizza Hut Taco Pizza fix.

Speaking of pizza places, when heading to Milwaukee a few weeks ago I saw a Pizza Pit in Lake Mills. There used to be one in Eau Claire that we'd order from when I was young. I had no idea Pizza Pit was still alive. I don't think the pizza is very good but it was a fun blast from the past for me.

It's not good.

I grew up in Green Bay and really like Jake's Pizza. My parents say it isn't the same since they re-opened on Broadway, but I like it. We ate a lot of Aldo's Pizza growing up and I see they're still going in Green Bay. Also delicious up Green Bay way is Wild Tomato in Door County.

I saw someone else mentioned it, I also loved Luigi's in River Falls when I went to school there.

Blue Moon in Lake Mills is very good pizza. The hours are weird, they're only occasionally open for dine-in.

In the Madison area, Salvatore's is fantastic.

Oh yes, agreed, they have great pizza! We stop there every other year when we make it up to Door County, can't believe I forgot about them...

Second Wild Tomato, I think they have two locations, Fish Creek and Egg Harbor. It might be the best I've had in WI.

I think there are two classes of pizza. The artisan, "actually good" pizza like WT, and the stuff you want after polishing half a liter of Jack.

Also, I've learned not to put any stock in bar pizza. "This bar or that bar has the best pizza!" So I try it, and it is good, but no different than good pizza at any bar. Sometimes really not that good at all. I really think it's because someone has a couple beers, is really hungry, so that pizza is the best thing in the world.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Papa Murphy's. That was our go to place when we lived in Brookfield.

Since we moved to rural Wisconsin I buy Wewalka refrigerated pizza crust (2 choices found at Woodman's and Walmart) and make my own. Not much more effort than buying a frozen one and adding extra stuff.

Also upset that Rocky's got booted out of Westgate Mall and no longer have a delivery option for the west side of Madison.

I think the best pizza in Middleton/west side of Madison is The Roman Candle.

While it is good, I feel like it's really expensive for what you get. Last time I went there I spent nearly $30 for a family of four and I walked out still feeling hungry.

Isn’t $30 for 4 pretty cheap? Casual food for 2 with iced teas are usually $30-40?

I know you pizza snobs will be jealous, but for lunch today, I get to have high school lunch line pizza.

I agree on the Pizza Hut thin crust pizza. It can really hit the spot. My knock on it is I feel there is a slim margin between it being good and average. If it's overdone or you get it cold, it can be so average. When it's hot with warm melty cheese, it's really good.

Another pizza place that's a chain, but not one of the main ones, is Jet's Pizza. If you haven't given it a try, I highly recommend. You have to get their eight corner pizza. It's very similar look to a Rocky's slice and has a great buttery crust like Pizza Hut deep dish. When we lived in Cincinnati, we couldn't find a good local pizza place, and this became our go to. I actually just had it last night and it was delicious as always. For the record, I'm not a deep dish pizza fan usually, but their eight corner is awesome!

I think Pizza Hut is awful, but I legitimately like Domino's and think it holds up against most non-chain places. I loved the Triple Deckeroni and Pizza Hut way back in the day but not sure how it would hold up against time. Dom's went through a period of near bankruptcy but they really came back nicely.

Now that Papa Murphy's has been mentioned, I will shamefully admit to enjoying the take and bakes at Walmart. I've yet to find a better frozen pizza value.

My brother worked at Pizza Hut in the late 90s. The "pan crust" pizza is literally a deep fried donut with tomato sauce on it. They would saturate the pan with a half inch of oil before they put the crust in.
