I'd be reminiscent as a Brewers fan who watches the game on TV to not acknowledge Pizza Ranch in a discussion about pizza places.

Reticent?

I thought about mentioning Pizza hut as a joke...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

It may be cliche, but I love Ian's in Madison. Also, Slavatore's Tomato Pies in Sun Prairie or East Side of Madison. They both are a bit far from where I live but it's well worth the drive when we do go.

Also on my list is Mequon Pizza Company and Tomaso's in Cedarburg, and Happy Joe's in Green Bay (Dubuque also has one that we stop at when we head to Iowa to see family).

Anybody else remember Skis pizza in Whitewater. I believed it closed about 1982. Pizza by the slice. Definitely contributed greatly to my freshman 20 (or was that 30).

The mention of Whitewater reminded me Rosa's, which I knew closed and I thought I heard it wasn't reopening. A random Google later and I see it very much reopened last summer. I loved that place.

Then I remembered a conversation with my SIL's father, a claims adjuster. He told me a while ago that the fire (reason it closed) was basically an arson they couldn't prove definitively.

I think 90% of restaurant fires fall into the above category.

LouisEly - Rocky's! I haven't had that in so long but it sounds glorious right now.

Speaking of pizza places, when heading to Milwaukee a few weeks ago I saw a Pizza Pit in Lake Mills. There used to be one in Eau Claire that we'd order from when I was young. I had no idea Pizza Pit was still alive. I don't think the pizza is very good but it was a fun blast from the past for me.

By the slice, Sal's on College Ave. in Appleton is great! They also give you a garlic roll with each slice, heavenly...

If you ever make it to MILE of MUSIC, Sal's is the place to go when you need a pizza fix.

We used to get Rocky's as part of our school lunch once a week. It was a Friday tradition. Quality wasn't quite the same though.

Zaffiro's in Milwaukee is pretty good too. Similar to Balistreri's but not as good, IMO.

There used to be a place in Madison called Falbo Brothers that I absolutely loved when I was an undergrad. And now that I look I see they have locations all over the place. Anyone tried it recently? I was a delivery guy for Pizza Extreme when they had their outlet on East Washington in Madison. They had really good food...at least to a college kid they did.

Toppers, their pizza isn't actually very good at all but their Topperstix are still the best thing about that place. Especially dipping it in their nacho cheese sauce, it's like crack.

I love this thread.

If anyone is in Chicago, skip all the downtown deep-dish places and go to Pequod's which is just west of Lincoln Park.

I was at Ian's in Milwaukee a few years ago and thought it was awesome!

I'm not gluten free, my sister-in-law is, and she says that Stuc's in Appleton is by far, the best gluten free pizza crust/pizza she has ever had! I have heard this from other's as well.

Pizza Pit nearly closed for good 25 years ago (on edit, 2006), but made a comeback. I've been to the Lake Mills location several times. My motto has been "if you live too far from Pizza Pit, you're too far from Madison".

I've stuck with The Pit as I've just never warmed up to Glass Nickel.

I don't work far from the Mequon Pizza Company. Now I'll have to try it out.

I am always suspicious when a restaurant burns down and then it doesn't rebuild/reopen. Especially when it is waterfront. There have been a couple near me. Get the insurance money and then sell waterfront property.

There's that or use the money to renovate. I feel like every time this happens you get "Well it was probably time to fix the place up anyway." or "We were planning on redoing our kitchen but not for a few years."

Pizza Ranch for the win!

Seriously though, Balistreri's in Tosa, Albanese's in Waukesha, Zaffiros (restaurant not a slice at MP), and Pizza King in Appleton probably the best of my favorite type- MKE style pizza. Sammy's in Appleton was also great, but moved then closed down. North Lake Inn is a bit out of the way from anywhere, but it's very good. They supposedly have Mama Mias recipes or something.

I fondly remember Skis in Whitewater, had a unique taste and texture or something. Also love a nice super slice from Rocky's.

I'm thinking "remiss."

So, I grew up in Monroe in the 1980s, when Pizza Hut was the bomb. Now it's only a gut bomb. *rimshot*

Nowadays, the SO is diabetic and is reluctant to go overboard on pizza, and I'm not likely to order a full pie for myself. But - the original Ian's location on Frances in Madison is a 5 minute walk away from our libraries and we both enjoy a slice or two there.

For SO to opt for frozen pizza at home, he pretty much needs a nutrition label to make sure it doesn't whack out his carb count, so we most often get Di Giorno. Not in bulk or anything.

Earlier in our time in Madison, we lived near the first Pizza Extreme location, and used to regularly get their taco pizza. That was a good pie. There's no way SO would eat that much carbness in one meal anymore, and again, I'm not ordering a full pie for myself. But there are times I'd opt for that taco pizza again if it were practical. Another location is not far from our current house, so I experience no shortage of temptations.

Rocky's...is a pie I got tired of after the fall semester 1985, when I ordered a sausage slice every Monday and Wednesday before I went to work at my college library gig. We more often go for the salad bar, which for that kind of establishment is more solid than you'd think. I do like Rocky's breadsticks, though.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I still prefer the deep-dish pizzas over any others. There are only a few in Arizona that actually makes them correctly.

Pequds deep dish (I think they call it "pan") is the best in town.

Deep dish, thick crust, cheesy, saucy, sloppy pizza. You're damn right it's glorious.

They had great coupons in the local coupon book, particularly four topping large's for around $15. My favorite - sausage (their sausage is the best I've ever had anywhere), pepperoni, spinach, pineapple:
