Hoping the batters stay hot and benefit from seeing this guy twice in a row. Hopefully the Cubs stay cold and fail to figure out Freddy. Also don't hit Contreras we don't need that kind of drama.

I hope we load up the lefties big time. This guy throws almost all fastball/slider, changeup is meh and he rarely throws it. The Cubs also have 2 LH relievers in their bullpen and one of them went 1.2 innings yesterday, so he might not be available. I'm hoping to see something like this...

Cain

Vogelbach

Yelich

Garcia

Shaw

Narvaez

Agreed. The one they showed against Suter was a joke. The ump should've called a strike for batter interference. His arm was almost in the strike zone.

Two other interesting points to note about Boxberger hitting him:

1) Pina escorted him to 1B and Contreras has no issue with it. I'd assume there must be a friendship between the two so that Contreras allowed it.

2) I appreciate how Baez tried to defuse the situation by coming in to separate Contreras from Suter and others coming out of the dugout.

It is understandable when people back up "their guy", but far less often (and more commendable) when someone can look at the situation and work toward cooler heads.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Agreed. Baez isn't my favorite player, but quite a few of this Cubs group seem like real good dudes and I would generally root for if they were on other teams. I'm looking forward to Bryant leaving especially so I don't have to hate him by default.

You want Hiura to get a second consecutive day off after the only successful game he's had this season? I understand wanting to load up on lefties, but most people were frustrated that Hiura was off yesterday following a big game, let alone two days in a row.

Looks like you are both getting your wish. Vogelbach draws another start at 1B, while Hiura is getting his first start of the year at 2B.

The Hiura off piece was admittedly an oversight. Didn't really think about that. I can live with him at 2b over Peterson and CC managed 5 lefties so that's good. Unfortunate that Yelich is off but if he needs the day it's what it is.

Yelich with the day off but Shaw back in there.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I would throw behind Contreras, it might get called a strike if he leans any farther over the plate.

Yardly down. Predomo up. Will be nice to see the big lefty again.

Perdomo looked unhittable at times in Spring Training. His biggest speed bump, as always, will be command. But if he has finally found that, he has the makings of a potential asset in the pen.

Hopefully Yardley figures something out and can come back closer to the pitcher he was in 2020. A guy with his type of stuff has to be impeccable hitting his spots, and Yardley has missed far to often in his opportunities this year.

I doubt Perdomo has fully found his command, but that's ok. He's still a better option than Yardley.

Looks like they’re going with the goal line package on the infield tonight, hopefully Freddy just strikes everyone out and it doesn’t really matter.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

Perdomos stuff is good enough he can be good just being around the strike zone, not the same with yardley

I'm really surprised to see Hiura starting at 2nd. I figured it was going to be like when Braun left 3rd, only a dire emergency would send him back there.

The infield defense should be terrible tonight but I am okay with this with FF on the mound.

Good point. The value of infield defense is different when you have a Freddy Peralta starting versus when you have a Brett Anderson starting.

I have no doubt that between Freddy starting and having their top relievers available they feel more comfortable about the number of balls likely to be put in play this evening.

This is looking like one of those situations where Yelich will be out for 4 or 5 days while they decide whether he needs to go on the IL. So, for a few days they’ll be playing a man short.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Per Robert Murray:

At least one Chicago Cubs player is being placed on the COVID list, according to sources familiar with the situation. It’s believed to be out of abundance of caution.

EDIT: Murray’s follow up information...

Chicago Cubs bullpen coach Chris Young has tested positive for COVID-19. Jason Adam, Dan Winkler and Brandon Workman are being placed on the 10-day Injured List out of abundance of caution.

Not just “at Night” anymore.
