2021-05-13: Cardinals (Flaherty) at Brewers (Burnes) [Brewers lose, 2-0 -- Burnes sets strikeout record and finally issues his first walk; Good pitching and defense goes for naught]

Either the ball is dead or I have gotten significantly worse at judging fly balls.

Cardinals right fielder is asking himself the same question right about now.

Why couldn't they have miked up Bader last night when he was wearing roller skates on Shaw's fly ball in the 6th?

That's a lonely feeling.

Also, lol at the official scorer ruling that a double.

Yah, literally no way that is a hit. He camped under it until he realized it was much further.

I think he lost it.

It’s going to be hard enough for the Brewers to score, but it’s going to be impossible if the ump is going to call strikes on balls that are both low and outside.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Why doesn't this team situational hit?! Please try and play smart baseball and move runners against elite SP.

You think they are not trying?

I think they do not adjust their approach to fit the situation. It appears Garcia and Narvaez were both trying to hit HR.

Garcia shortened up with 2 strikes. Narvaez had no reason to shorten up. Doesn't really matter if he's on 2nd or 3rd with two outs.

We will agree that regardless of intent the execution is poor.

I mean you have Daniel Vogelbach and Travis Shaw hitting in the 3 and 4 spots in your lineup. I can't even think of a 3/4 combo from the early 2000s Brewers that was that bad.

Agree on execution.

Narvaez was up with 1 out. JBJ lined out to end the inning.

Someone just posted on Gateway Redbirds: I really can't stand Craig Counsell.

I can't imagine how you could have an opinion about him as an opposing fan. I would be less surprised if an opposing team fan posted "I don't know who the Brewer manager is."

"Go ahead. Try to disagree with me. I dare you." Jeffrey Leonard.

Even in the early 2000s they still had guys like Burnitz, Sexson and Jenkins. End of season lineups with injuries could still be brutal though. With that said I would even prefer a Lenny Harris/Matt Stairs combo.

The Brewers have a lot of scoring opportunities but not many scoring threats.

Did Burnes just break the no BB record?

That is a big part of the problem. When the entire team looks worthy of batting #7 or #8, even when someone gets a hit it is like the pitcher is coming up to hit after them.

If you're Burnes and Woodruff do you even really want to stick around here long-term?

As a competitor, I would think that constantly holding lineups to 0-2 runs scored and not being rewarded for it would get disheartening.

I could think of over a 100million reasons for each of them
