I stepped away and somehow the Cards' 1 turned into a 7. I'd be more upset if I didn't know this thread would be pure entertainment as a result.

You must have a morbid sense of humor if you are enjoying this thread.

Looks like a thread I would expect if it was Game 163.

Craigtember 10-10 if this score holds. Not ideal, not terrible. Yelich is by far the most concerning part about this. OPS+ of 93, slugging below .360 now. Probably time to move him to the 6 or 7 hole.

Is there a way to know what our record is when Cain and Pina are in the lineup? This isn’t a knock on their performance today. I just feel like they never win when I see it. But feelings aren’t facts so wondering if there is a way.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

LOL great, I might have to log out of the forum for awhile if we lose. I don't really want to read to doomsday posts in every thread.

Then don't.

Why do we need to know this information.

You slummed it showing up today, if things don't go your way, then you don't need to stick around, it's a choice.

We'll have a sense of whether to worry by Sunday.

I have a feeling the Cubs are going to be better than people think against the Cards. One Cardinal loss in four games there, including a DH tomorrow, and the math flips completely.

Here's the truth: If the Brewer lose the division, they'll deserve it. And then will have to dust themselves off and win a one-game playoff. Being up 7.5 with 9 to go is where you want to be.

This isn’t directed solely at you but this fan base is a bunch of weenies. Straight up weenies that are fearful of other teams. My god. It’s baseball. They’re a good team and will be on the postseason for the 4th year in a row with a legit chance to actually win it.

Yeah, we're a bunch of weenies. This team has never collapsed before. What the heck are we thinking? :rolleyes

And what, exactly, in this team right now shows you they are even remotely capable of "winning it"? We can't score runs. Our bullpen is floundering. Our "superstar" is hitting .181 in the month of September, OPSing a paltry .475.

The Brewers have hit a very real mental block. The Cardinals are laughing at us, and they still have us for three at Busch. The Dodgers are licking their chops.

If we don't come back here, that's 5 in a row we've lost. 6 of the last 9 come against the Cardinals and Dodgers in their houses. We could very easily go 3-11 to close the season. And you expect the team to just magically shake that off?

I want this team to get their heads back in it. Right now, however, they show no signs that they're a team to be reckoned with in the playoffs.

Huh?

Huh?

It almost like....that is what I said in my post? Why do I need to know your thoughts on what I do or don't do?

Is there anyone who wants to step up and prevent a historically ridiculous divisional collapse? Doesn't seem like it should be much to ask but it apparently is.

Will our robust and intrepid local sports reporters ask Counsell why Williams is in the dugout today?

Wasn't their a stomach bug going around? I remember Woodruff apparently having it and then he was shown in the dugout when he was suppose to start that day. I took stomach bug as like a virus, not food poisoning...but maybe that is what Woodruff had.

I get it, it’s an IGT where we’re getting swept by the Cards (check my signature—my patience for this Cardinal crap is shallower than many), so people are in no mood. But I’m going to lay down my marker. Here is what matters by this point: put the best team together you can (Brewers have done more with less than just about anyone, so check), make the postseason (check), avoid the play-in (99.99% there). That’s it, that’s the list, because the postseason is a dart throw. The regular season is like counting cards, and the postseason is craps. The odds were always against us anyway, so let’s spin. Worrying about anything else is pointless.

The ONLY things that concern me about this series right now is A health (Williams) and B mental state. I’m on record as saying the Brewers can build mental fortitude by snapping this losing streak and entering the postseason less mentally fragile than they would otherwise be. Success does not build resiliency, overcoming failure does. I am supremely confident in winning the division, which means overcoming their current struggles. Anything can still happen, but nobody is losing the World Series right now. Our chances are not appreciably worse than when we entered the week, and that’s all you need.

ALL OF THIS^^ It's not being a weenie to see the obvious: this team is well and truly whipped. It's tough to admit, lamentable, regrettable, but TRUE.

And I'm still listening and caring, even though my feeble brain tells me to let it all go.

Look at the bright side, if the Brewers lost 15 games in a row to end the season and the Cardinals won 24 in a row to end theirs, Craig Counsel likely will lose his job. After all the same owner fired Yost down the stretch in ‘08 for nearly blowing a sure thing playoff spot

Cardinals definitely aren't laughing at us as they have the steepest of hills to STILL climb to catch us for the division.

Neither the Dodgers or Giants are "licking their chops" as they both are dealing with the other and avoiding a wild card. Plus neither would see us until the NLCS.

Braves and Phillies also aren't "licking their chops" as they are both fighting for their lives and only one will survive.

This team is still in a great position. Their play the past week has sucked and if they don't get right then October may be short lived. But as far as where they are going to be come October, they are in a great spot.

Understand that I know that the chances of the Brewers winning the division is still >99% at this point.

But it shouldn't even still be in question. The only reason they held off celebrating clinching was that the division seemed to be a foregone conclusion. It's a little embarrassing that days later we're still right here.

Who cares? These games are virtually meaningless.

It’s be nice to be hot going into the post season but maybe this will convince Counsel to rest Boxberger and Cousins a bit in meaningless games so they stay fresh

If this continues, they're going to turn into meaningful games.

Nope. They literally need to lose every game they have left. Not to mention the team behind them have to win virtually every game they have left.

Hell, I would limit the innings of the big dogs and late inning guys and let Gustave, Norris, etc pitch a lot these last 9 games

You’re free to believe the Brewers have the division locked up, but it is not literally true that the Brewers would have to lose every game.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I'd still like to know why Counsell pulled Houser? He had thrown only 81 pitches, and was cruising.

Over his last 8 starts, Hauser has had a 2.22 ERA. Why pull him and put in relievers that have been struggling to find the strike zone, of late? That makes no sense to me.

If Williams is healthy, put Houser out one more inning. Put Williams in for the 8th, Hader to slam the door shut. We avoid the sweep, and head into the three games against New York with a much needed positive in our pocket.

I mean the team seemed like they were in a good mood in the dugout all game, Adames still seemed energetic pretending to catch a ball after it already bounced, Taylor sprinted down a ball after losing the lead.

I keep seeing them 'letting their foot off the gas' or 'mentally not there' etc.

Is there anything to actually make these statements somewhat legitimate or are we just trying to make a losing streak more than it is.

It feels guaranteed the cards will win the wild card game and go on a rampage. Hate them so much.

The one intelligent thing they pointed out on the broadcast is how little correlation hot streaks (or cold streaks) at the end of a regular season have to do with playoff success.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Cards haven't won 12 games in a row since 1982.

Glad we can get them back on track.
