Depends on the country and if he is a US citizen.  If he is a citizen of a country where age of consent is 14 which he is not.  I believe he is still a Dominican Republic citizen which is 18.  US law applies to US citizens internationally so if something is legal in another country and is illegal in the US you are breaking the law and could be charged.

For example if it is legal to drink alcohol at 16 in one country it is still illegal for a US citizen to drink alcohol in that country and you can be charged for illegally drinking alcohol once back in the US.

Oh yeah? That’s simply something you made up. Thousands of people buy and smoke Cuban cigars abroad with no fear of being arrested upon return to America, same deal with Amsterdam and prostitutes in the red light district

How could a prosecutor charge somebody with a crime in America with no access or way to compel access to proof of the crime. Total baloney.

Back on topic Franco is uber rich, even if allegations end up true these things have a way of working out where the victim refuses to cooperate/testify $$$.

It is not you should look up extraterritorial jurisdiction.  If the age of consent is 16 in another country as a US citizen the age of consent is still 18 for you and you can and will be charged with statutory rape.

That’s far narrower than your original premise. That  particular Citizens Guide claims the US has jurisdiction over “certain” sex crimes committed abroad involving children.

My point is still correct, without the ability to compel participation from foreign witnesses or access to proofs of the crime from a foreign country, nobody is even getting charged unless it’s Jeffrey Epstein and they can leverage a bunch Americans to testify. That’s because the US government doesn’t not typically bring charges unless it’s nearly certain they’ll get a conviction.

Nice name calling. If you post something that’s goofy at least own it (“Don’t drink alcohol abroad if you’re under 21 it’s a Federal offense”) and not act like you’re 12 and calling people names (unless of course you are, in that case shame on you naughty boy).

Off topic but why is there such disrepect for people with different thoughts and views. The personal attacks have gotten way out of hand and have made this a much less enjoyable place to be.

All you had to do is delete the first sentence. Or say "I don't think that's true"

Everyone's so quick to get their own dig in.

I know I should probably just put this in the what is bugging me thread but I think it is better to put it here.

I was going through some Tony Gwynn interviews and some other interviews with other players and I have come to the conclusion that some posters on here would have hated Gwynn as a hitting coach.  This is mostly on his thoughts on stances or the lack there of.  Gwynn didn't see stances as being all that important to hitting.

The Angels are calling up Nolan Schanuel, their first round pick from THIS year. Who was the last player to get called up this quickly after being drafted?

Angels called up their 2022 first rounder Zach Neto two weeks into this season after only 44 minor league games.

Believe the last guy to go straight from the draft to MLB skipping the affiliated minors entirely was Mike Leake with the Reds back in 2010, but he was a 2009 draftee and did throw in the AZ Fall League.

Paul Skenes could be up pretty quick next year too. Looks like the Nats gave Strasburg eleven starts at AA/AAA the year after getting drafted before he got the MLB call.

I watched him pitch in the College World Series this year and honestly I thought he looked ready to contribute to any MLB rotation.

I saw this in a phone notification from the Score and researched a bit myself:

Garrett Crochet was an 11th overall pick in 2020 for the White Sox and was called up that September without first appearing in the minors (since there was no minor league season that year). He pitched 6 innings in relief in 2020 and 54.1 innings in 2021.

I'm not sure if the league used regular Sept call up rules that season and if records would count his call up amongst the fastest historically. Crochet hadn't spent any time in the minors until this season, he missed all of 2022 after Tommy John surgery and seems to still be dealing with some shoulder inflammation which has resulted in some rehab appearances in the minors.

Edit: I guess it might not be fastest call up because his call up was around 3 months after he was drafted. But going straight from a draft pick to the big leagues despite the delay seemed interesting enough.

Why do so many teams have the day off this Sunday (Aug 20th)? I can't remember any team ever having Sunday off...

Believe they moved the Sunday games for SDP, LAD and LAA up to Saturday doubleheaders in anticipation of the looming hurricane.

I was looking at his BR page and noticed his middle name is Ryan. That would make his full name Nolan Ryan Schanuel.

If the Yankees lose tonight it will be their first ten game losing streak since 1913.

If they finish the year under .500, it will be their first time doing so since 1992.

Been a bad year for big spenders, by Cot’s OD payroll rank…#1 NYM (59-68) #2 NYY (60-65) #3 SDP (60-67) #6 LAA (61-65)
