He is noticeably critical of Chourio. I’m sure he has positive intentions.

He knows how to deal with young talent. Legendary college manager. One of the reasons I liked the hiring.

It was a poorly-coordinated silent treatment. They need to go watch Bartolo Colon's home run and try again.

Edit -- I take it back after seeing the replay. Murph was a perfect statue but he couldn't quite hide a smirk.

Look, I know the returns on Chourio are far too early to assume anything, good or bad. But I just wanted to see his first week as a very very young man if he'd look like he belongs at this level or is overwhelmed by it.

Clearly, he isn't overwhelmed, and clearly, he belongs.

Hope he continues to do well however, Wiemer/Turang were both unstoppable the first five games and their 2023 seasons ended up being bleach in the eyes bad.

A long way to go and pitchers are going to pick apart where he struggles. Reality is, he barely managed an .800 OPS last year in the minors...a guy like Corbin Carroll was smacking a 1.000 in the minors. So, I will temper my expectations still. Dude just has to keep his head high and battle through the struggles ahead...because they will come.

Fortunately Jackson is nearly 4 years younger than Carroll, so he has plenty of time.

Corbin Carroll was 21 when he was in AA.

That is completely irrelevant to the point I was making. The point was, Carroll mashed instantly at the MLB level all year...but he also mashed in the minors to the tune of a 1.000.

Chourio simply held his own before coming the majors...so the odds he comes up mashing a .850+ OPS would be quite surprising in the grand scheme...aka, Chourio is probably going to run into a brick wall of reality at some point.

I mean, I hope not....but I am guessing at some point it is going to feel like he is very overmatched once teams learn about him more.

For the Corbin Carroll comparison to really be applicable, you'd have to wait to see what Chourio does in AA NEXT YEAR.

Corbin Carroll also didn't have to deal with more than half a season of a pre-tacked ball in AA.

Not that surprising. Development outcomes aren't always linear.

Well, particularly when you're hanging sliders.

An .850 OPS at Nashville is basically the equivalent of a 1.000 OPS in the PCL.

Way to early to be making calls on Chourio. Keston Hiura looked like a Hall of Famer his first two months.  The league will adjust to Chourio and Chourio will need to adjust back.

But yes, the early returns are Chourio are promising. He's not getting fastballs just blown by him.

If you go back and look at the last two hits, both Yelich and Frelick had plays on the ball.

I understand the possible risks, but they did have possible plays.

Why pitch him 4 out of 5 days? You have guys who have not pitched at all. This is something I hoped Counsell absence would cure.

He's pitched four out of six, or three out of four days depending how you want to slice it up.

Mar 29, Mar 31, Apr 2, Apr 3.

It's early in the season, everyone should theoretically be at their freshest and there is an off day tomorrow.
