It worked for Dallas last year with Aubrey. Seems like that success would translate a lot better than college.

Yeah, it worked out great for them. But Bates is still with Detroit.

Maybe this international pathway kid can get consistent real quick?

Anders is going to replay that last preseason kick in his head all season, maybe for the rest of his life if he never latches on again. I truly believe he makes the team if he makes it. Looked like he was starting to come around and then misses a short kick like he did a bunch of times last year and I think the organization just had it right there.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty much his job until that kick.

I missed that he was cut. So I guess we're going with Joseph?

Detroit tried this(as did we, but he picked them).

He was not good. They'd probably be happy with Joseph or Carlson at this point....

(I didn't read the whole article, but he's struggled and I'm guessing they cover that).

Bates as 6/7 in the preseason. Lions offered him a 2 year guaranteed deal, the Packers wouldn't. I think they are stuck with him.

I think it's very fair to say:

As a general rule of process and results: Don't draft kickers. Really don't draft kickers with career 71 % FGM track records.

Please allow me the time to grieve properly and peacefully during this trying time:

(TE Tyler Davis to IR in 3...2...1 - a pre-season tradition like no other)

It won't be the last time you see him. He'll be on the PS.

Cutting both Pratt and Clifford - which seemed pretty obvious given the Willis trade - then preferring Clifford on the P/S? This is certainly a choice. They obviously prefer Cliffy's grasp of the playbook and year of tenure (?) but it seemed quite obvious Pratt had more raw upside and potential and was younger.  Not sure I can say I understand this one.

Stunningly, Pratt in the span of a few days has fallen out of the No. 2 competition in Green Bay and now will be hoping to latch onto a practice squad somewhere else.

From Bill Huber HERE

I am wondering if Pratt doesn't have the mental acumen? I obviously have no clue but this is definitely a bit of a head-scratcher for me.

Pratt seemed to make more sense as a developmental P/S player plus he outperformed Clifford this preseason. Seems like Gutey really likes Clifford for some reason.

I wonder if Huber assumes that Clifford being asked back if he clears automatically means Pratt won’t. It wouldn’t shock me if they kept both on the practice squad at least initially. I could easily see them preferring Clifford as the No. 2 while Willis learns the offense.

Carlson was a bad pick from the start. I don't know what it was about his 72% in college that made Gutey salivate over him.

I think he's going to replay that missed kick in San Francisco more.

I am guessing it was a concession to Bisaccia who coached Anders' brother in Oakland.  Rich prolly liked the guy/family and thought he'd be good to work with...enough so that he didn't want to risk letting another team get him.

I would've told Bisaccia tough toenails. Gute needs to make decisions that are best for the team. Much like Murphy needs to stop letting his players dictate their playing time.

Some kickers that got cut today:

Lucas Havrisik

Matthew Wright

Spencer Shrader

Riley Patterson

Charlie Smyth

That's far from an exciting group...Matthew Wright maybe. The rest are no better than Joseph IMO

I’ve always liked the dude, just not the player. As such, I’m sorry he’s hurt (goes without saying, I would be in any event), glad he got some money for his trouble, and also glad this all but surely closes the book on his time as a player in Green Bay. Hope he makes a full and complete recovery.

Now watch pass pro become a complete nightmare without him as I eat my words…

I see TE Tyler Davis did indeed go straight to the season-long IR. A tradition like no other now that Royce Newman 'The Silver Cloud' has been released to work elsewhere.

Basic bullet points for me post-initial 53 announced:

  • Don't agree with cutting both King and Anthony Johnson Jr. for a ST 'Ace' on a 29th ranked unit last year. Don't agree with it at all when you already have three young safeties above Anderson in the pecking order.
  • Sad to see Welch not make it after having such a solid pre-season
  • When that lingering 'stinger' issue returned for Dillon it was pretty clear the writing was on the wall. Best of luck to him - I imagine there will be a post-IR designation injury settlement and release. I don't think his failures on multiple short yardage situations this pre-season and consequent mini-tirade in that locker room interview did him any favors.
  • Sad to see Dubose get released - we used every bit of 7 WR last season. I have a hard time thinking we needed to have Glover on the 53 and Dubose and Welch seem like the obvious releases to make this happen
  • As per usual, I continue the annual tradition of becoming smitten with several pre-season darlings to inevitably see them cut.
  • Very curious to see how the PS ultimately shakes out

I saw this online a few days ago, these are the camp battles to watch for on the kicker front. Looking at it Narverson seemed the most intriguing based on who is probably going to be cut.

Narverson did in fact get cut by the Titans. I'm far from sold on Joseph, it will be interesting if they explore any of the FA kickers

Every year we fear that our TC darling that gets cut will be claimed... but very few do.  I guess we will see. Bad day to be a 7th round pick (Pratt, Johnson, Dubose, King).

I'm guessing some of that was "excused" because he kicked injured his last year.  I'm sure there was a lot more scouted about him than just that one number... but alas, that number did tell the tale (at least initially)
