Nothing too special, but should hopefully eat innings, fit right in to the Brewers FIP beating ways and push Ashby to the bullpen...

Quintana 2024
95 ERA- | 113 FIP-

Brewers 2024
88 ERA- | 102 FIP-

Great signing! This should let us bring Woody along slowly and then go with a 6 man rotation if everyone is healthy or a 5 man if they aren't.

Very solid depth signing. Gotta feel like this pushes Ashby and Hall to the pen for now.

Can't wait for bigred to come in and pontificate about how this isn't needle moving enough for him.

Yea think its fine insurance on Ashby, Hall, Woodruff.   Hopefully its not a sign that they're not liking the looks of Wood/Ashby behind the scenes.    But I'd guess its more that Hall is already on the DL so why not get insurance at that price if you can't find a good IF to spend the money on instead

Jose Quintana last 3 seasons

3.75 ERA in 2024

3.57 ERA in 2023

2.93 ERA in 2022

A solid addition to the rotation

As for the depth, pitchers are constantly hurt, teams regular use 10+ starters in a season.

Makes me wonder why no one else wants that production at that price?

He fell off pretty hard last year.

72 ERA- | 76 FIP- | 93 xFIP- in 2022.

85 ERA- | 81 FIP- | 102 xFIP- in 2023.

95 ERA- | 113 FIP- | 109 xFIP- in 2024.

2022 and 2023 were also aided by really good/lucky home run suppression (42 HR9+), but that caught up with him big time last year with a more appropriate 103 HR9+.

At the same time his last six regular season starts were ridiculous last year with 36 IP of 19 ERA- | 62 FIP- | 87 xFIP- and he followed that up with 0 ER over 11 IP in his first two postseason starts before the Dodgers finally got to him in the NLCS so hopefully there are another 170 or so IP of 95 ERA- left in the tank, as that shook out to 3.0 rWAR for Jose last year.

Not much more to add other than a solid solid depth piece. Hard to complain about this type of vet at this stage of the off-season at that price.

If you report a post, don't follow that up by replying to said post.  It makes for a lot more work to clean things up.

Any who, the one good thing about this move, is it will probably put Ashby in the pen where he belongs.

This creates a positive domino effect, effectively pushing Ashby and Hall (when healthy) to the pen, and guys like Misiorowski and Henderson to the AAA rotation to get more seasoning. It also potentially pushes Yoho to the Nashville pen, at least for the beginning of the season. You have to like the pitching depth this team is looking at, including all the young, talented arms in AAA.

It would absolutely suck if Yoho doesn't make the OD roster in the pen. He's earned the chance.

It's a numbers game, and he isn't even on the 40-man roster yet.

That said, even if he doesn't make the opening day roster, it doesn't mean he won't play a pivotal role this season.

I would be shocked if Yoho does make the OD roster given that he's not yet on the 40 man, and the Brewers go for preserving depth 99.9% of the time.

Very unlikely that Yoho makes the OD roster. There will be injuries and overwork that will get Yoho to the big club for sure in 2025.

Comparing last years OD rotation to this years is pretty eye opening.

24: Freddy, Rea, Hall, Junis, Ross

25: Freddy, Cortes, Civale, Quintana, Myers

Pretty interesting they have four SP heading into free agency after ‘25. If they fail to keep pace at least they will have an infusion of young talent coming in July 31st.
