There is almost certainly an era effect as well. For most players 140ish games played now is full on every day territory making 120 full time except for a quick DL stint. 150+ was the expectation for sure in the past.

Greenies in the clubhouse certainly helped that.

Rosiak reporting on X - Wilken with a non surgical recovery time of 8-10 weeks... gahhh, such a stupid, fluke injury

It's a really, really annoying injury. I'm glad, though, that it doesn't require surgery.

Maybe he'll return to the Fall League this season and rake, putting him in line to compete for a starting role in 2026?

It could be worse for sure. Maybe we could see him up by mid 2026, but I'm thinking more like 2027. My guess is that the Brewers 2026 are going to look a lot like 2025, mostly the same cast of characters with prospects not yet ready.

Yah, I am actually sort of relieved. When I heard dislocated kneecap, my mind flashed to the Tank Dell injury.

I figured that, what about Blake Perkins he started out on a 60 day IL that turned into a year already.

Collins being playable will make the Mitchell injury hurt less. Perkins can take Daz's spot when he's ready

Gasser coming back strong from TJ would be really sweet, hard to imagine him having major league impact this season but there's at least some options if and when the next rotation tweaks are needed.  I think he's still considered a ML rookie; with Mis, Henderson, Patrick, and Gasser, that is a bunch of rookie starters who have already had some ML success.

Sounds like he could be back right around when Mis will start hitting his innings limit and either get shut down or moved to the bullpen.

That's not a bad deal - exit Mis from the rotation, insert Gasser.

Would Mitchell be a target to move to 1b? Next season of course.

Absolutely not, before he got hurt he was graded as one of the better CFs in baseball

Before the key word. I'm asking for after. These injuries revolve to shoulder.  So is it to throwing arm? Or catching arm? Diving at balls in the OF or crashing in to a wall bring catching arm in to play. Throwing the ball back from warning track  brings the throwing arm in to play.  Will either of those, make him susceptible to reinjury? Especially seeing as a slide in to 1st did.

A lot of his value is based on defense. If you get rid of that, you might as well move on from him. Plenty of other guys can play first.

And that would be who next season? Is by plenty inferring to 1 of Rhys Hoskins?

Later this season?  I mean that is a bit optimistic maybe September at best would be his return timeline and I don't think that is really realistic.  I think the playoffs would be a more realistic timeline but that wouldn't be ideal.

I could be mistaken but I thought for the AZL they normally don't do repeat players.

Hoskins, Martinez, Vaughn, Black, free agents. Any of these options would be well ahead of moving a young CF to first base.

I don't know what you get out of that. His value is then... his base running?

I'm not sure he can hit still. Strikes out a lot. His injuries have come in all different ways.

I think the risk... diabetes causing more injuries or making the healing process longer may have an impact or it's just bad luck. But when he's out there, I'm playing him in CF/RF/. That's his best position and he's a better OF than Chourio.

Or the two guys crushing it in AA already? Adams is almost certainly headed for AAA...then Wilken should step their next year meaning both are on the doorstep.

Siegler would be preferable to Mitchell.

How about Yelich as a 1B? I know there’s probably a reason why not, but that would be a useful solution.

The thought on 1b was to keep him healthy.  I fear that one diving catch or bang against the wall sends him on the IL. It's just like Yelich when he was needing games off, but 1b never became a thing.  Collins has stepped up to remain an option. Perkins is returning.  Frelick and Chourio.  Yelich with DH.  Just curious for his protection from reinjury to try 1b. Wilken was injured recently that should delay his progress. Hoskins isn't guaranteed to be here. I forgot about Vaughn, but he's a non tender candidate.  Black I dunno what his future is.  I'm not familiar on Martinez.

I would like to see Mitchell play. I fear his health and depth chart for the OF. Just a thought to give him another option.

I'll end responding to any other comments on the idea. Do add any thoughts, I'll read them.

To the two commenter above this.  Yeli to 1b has been a topic multiple years. It's not happening.
