I'm still a fan but Garrett may be made of glass.

I think it’s a safe conclusion. Move on from him.

Oh no.  My son had a similar thing happen on his non-throwing shoulder.  He had labrum surgery (IIRC, that is what Mitchell had) in high school, then his freshman year in college, he was reaching for a line drive and tore it again.  Another surgery was needed 😢

I hate Mitchell. The potential is tantalising and he seems to be a fantastic person but he is always injured! He has missed almost 300 games over the past 3 years.

I don't know when do we let him go. He is going to arbitration next year and its going to get expensive to pay him to be on rehab asignment

At this point, I agree. Especially if another surgery is forthcoming I have a fork ready to stick.

I'm not sure. 1.5M offer his 1st arb isn't expensive.   What's he going to ask for? 2M? So frustrating his injury riddled career.

Yeah next year is probably cheap. Years 5 & 6 are the ones I am thinking about. 4M for a guy to sit on the IL for 100 games is a lot

You hate his injuries. Unless you think he is faking them.

Is this the end of Mitchell? At least as a Brewer?

Seems like the wrong time to give up on our 2020 first round pick. We wouldn’t get much value from trading him this year and he in no way is a DFA candidate.

He will recover again, even if it is 2026. When he returns, he will get playing time in Milwaukee.

Its a manner of speaking. I thought it was obvious

I hate the injuries. He seems to be a nice dude

Yep, cut bait. Nothing personal against him but if the shoulder can’t hold up again to diving into a base, you can’t use that.

He was a first round pick, with 3 years of team control. He’ll get tendered a contract for slightly more than the veteran minimum, and Mitchell will take it.

Otherwise he’s probably looking at no guaranteed money on a NRI if the Brewers non-tendered him after the season.

They play for money after all.

If the Brewers non tendered Mitchell he would have no problem getting a major league contract.

Yes he would.  There is a very good chance that the Brewers DFA him at the end of the year and he goes unclaimed. He is about to enter his age 27 season without having accumulated a full season of PAs.  Sure he he has 3 years of control left but that doesn't matter if he can't play. If he is set to miss all of next year, no one wants him accruing service time when no one knows if he even can play the the major league level. Aside from his injuries, he K rate is a large warning sign. But he has yet to play enough to say if that is just who he is or a sign that in time major league pitchers will dissect his swing.

If the Brewers let Mitchell walk and he becomes an all-star somewhere else in 2027 or 28, there is no part of me that will regret moving on from him.

The Brewers tend to sign two types of free agents. Guys recovering from an injury or once promising prospects who haven't put it all together for what ever reason. Why wouldn't they just keep the one they have who fits what they look for anyway?

Imagine the Twins giving up on Byron Buxton because he's hurt all the time...

Not saying Mitchell is as good as him but he's still a good player. You can deal with injuries to players that have a positive performance when they're healthy. He's not a starting pitcher that you're relying on to be your ace. The team can cover for him while he's out and make room for him when he's healthy. It's not that difficult.

Same could be said about Mike Trout, in recent years. Mitchell of course is less talented but still has plenty of potential

Yeah, I tend to agree with this.

Mitchell's injury history means you can't count on him, true. But if an org has depth like the Brewers (go Ike Collins!!), and Mitchell is more of a wild card 5th outfielder, he can really be a boon.

Let's say this most recent injury is more of a setback than a career-threatening injury, and that next June Chourio goes on the IL for a month or two, Mitchell has enough juice to keep such an injury from ruining a good season by filling in with a .220/.300/.400 and Gold Glove caliber defense in centerfield.

As Brewer fans we are SPOILED with good outfield defense, and I think we can take it for granted sometimes.

Agreed. Another example (albeit another better player) is Paul Molitor, who 'always seemed to be hurt' earlier in his career but shook the injury bug later. For now we can be glad this organization is adept enough at finding replacement parts that his being MIA isn't crippling. Of course it would help if Perkins wasn't taking forever to heal.
