That's good information

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Copilot response for what a PRP injection is:

A PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) injection is a treatment that uses a patient's own blood to promote healing in injured tissues. Here's how it works:

  1. Blood Draw: A small amount of the patient's blood is drawn.
  2. Centrifugation: The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets.
  3. Injection: The concentrated platelets are injected into the injured area, often using ultrasound guidance to ensure accuracy.

For pitchers with elbow problems, PRP injections are commonly used to treat conditions like UCL (Ulnar Collateral Ligament) tears, tennis elbow, and chronic tendinosis. The growth factors in the platelets help reduce inflammation and promote tissue repair, potentially speeding up recovery and reducing pain

I would assume that if it was a tear, it would've been reported... so tendonitis?

My SOP is to bust out the 'ol Jump To Conclusions Mat whenever I hear the words "elbow discomfort." Unfortunately mine has TJ on the first 6 squares so I need to get a running start to land on something else.

Sounds like Tyler Thornburg in 2014. Initially diagnosed as flexor strain but ultimately was partially torn UCL. Got PRP injection and avoided surgery. The bad news? The rest, recovery and rehab took 5 months….

Yeah, I checked on recovery times and it listed a couple weeks to multiple months... I'd guess this type of injection is something you do if you are on the upper range of time and not the lower range. I think the example was that it could save you a couple weeks off of an initial few month's recovery time. 😬

I'm not so good with the jumping so I underhand toss my Pet Rock at some squares.

That should also help prevent elbow injuries...

Sounds like the hope some of us had that this was merely an extended paternity leave has been dashed.

The only reason someone takes leave before the baby is born is if there is a medical issue with the mother or baby... so frankly, I'd take an elbow injury to Nester over the other option.

Oh, certainly...

I just meant that perhaps they put him onto the IL just to help him skip a start, spend time with his family early in the season.

I think my track record of being optimistic is solid. However…can they just rip the bandaid off and tell us that Cortes is done until 2026?

Nestor is a FA after the year, don’t think he punts on his elbow before it falls completely off.

He’ll get this PRP, take some time to rest/rehab (& play with the baby), then try to come back strong down the stretch so he can hopefully end the year “healthy” and effective to set himself up the best he can for the winter.

Unless there is a downside to giving the shot itself (idk?), why not give it regardless of projected recovery time if there is any reason to think it could help an iota?

Hopefully you are right. The sampling of pitchers that I saw had the injection were on the months of recovery instead of weeks.  For example, Kodai Senga had it at the end of March last year and was back pitching in July.

I would rather shut him down now, and have him for the end of Summer and the Playoff run, same with Woody if they aren't 100%. Just like how we got Devin back in July, felt like a huge trade deadline acquisition.

At this point, I think I'd take that.

Per Mccalvy

Three IL updates today:

Brandon Woodruff's next assignment is a start on Thursday in Nashville.

Blake Perkins has advanced to baseball activities.

Jeferson Quero, whose comeback from shoulder surgery was delayed by a hamstring injury, is also back to baseball activities.
