Really nice to see Yophery bounce back with a big July - 10 game hitting streak. Hitting 0.361 with a 1.034 on the month over 36 AB. The transition has not been smooth for Rodriguez as his season-long numbers quite easily indicate but it's nice to see such a quality young man experiencing high-end success once again. RHP John Holobetz has pitched 52.0 innings for the same High-A Greenville Drive (as Rodriguez). The 22-year-old is giving up a 0.268 BAA but has struck out 54 while walking a mere 8. Whip is healthy at 1.21 with a 3.29 ERA over his 10 appearances (9 Starts). The Sox took RHP Marcus Phillips (Tennessee) with the 33rd Comp A pick the Brewers also sent.

WIth Priester pitching the way he has, with the improvements we have consistently seen, I think in retrospect we all have to be extremely happy with this trade. I, for one, acknowledge my early opinions aged like curdled milk. I will happily eat my crow.

I know it was a late Friday night game, but I'd recommend fans go back and watch Priester's performance at Dodger Stadium. It was one of the best pitching performances from a Brewers pitcher this season. I don't think there's anything controversial about saying that.

It was really, really fun to watch. His sinker was unhittable. He was dotting all four quadrants. 10Ks in 77 pitches of shutout ball through six innings. 4+ pitches (I think he threw a changeup a couple of times). Seeing how excited he was talking to Hook and Henderson in the dugout after being pulled was fun to see, too. Judging body language is dumb, particularly after the adrenaline-rush brought on by dominating the greatest team ever assembled, but he looked like a player that saw what his big-league future COULD be.

If one were to only have watched that game, they would come away feeling like Priester is an ace, and one of the best pitchers in the game.

He should be brimming with confidence and belief that he can become just that.

I don't remember which topic it was, but there was some discussion on the board about who you would want to start a winner take all, and I think my answer is the Quinn from Friday night.

Theoretically, how may more outings of 6-7IP and 1-2 runs would it take for Priester to become a serious contender for Cy Young? Because that's what he's doing every time out.

While I'm sure Spencer Strider has that award all but wrapped up at this point, he's been phenomenal. Looking through most of these posts ......goodness gracious. There isn't enough crow in Westeros for this thread.

You mean Skenes? (And yes, he and Boyd and Sanchez would really have to tail off.)

Sorry. Was recently thinking about Strider about how he just doesn't look the same. A few years too late there.

I'm assuming it will be Zack Wheeler barring a meltdown

I'm thinking Zack Wheeler. He's scuffling a bit now but I still think he rebounds and gets it

Well simple math of 6 inning 1 run starts for 10 more starts and I got 174 innings with a 2.59 ERA, which is pretty good but Skenes currently has an ERA of 2.02 so he would need to have a meltdown or Priester would need some old school bump from maybe winning 20 games for a contender or something.

Cy Young or not, Priester has probably been Arnold's most important acquisition this season. Not only has Priester been performing well, but he has been incredibly consistent. Whatever we gave up for him seems like peanuts in comparison.

Thing is I don't think this is Quinn's final form. Give him an off-season and spring training with our staff to see if he can make his cutter better. I am optimistic because his slider is already really good.

Its not like its a Logan Henderson problem where you are not sure if he can become a supinator.

Wild he's only 24 and a former first Rd pick, just absolutely amazing what talent we unleashed

Yep this move seems to fly under the radar still. What a pickup.

I'm happy to admit I was wrong, really wrong about this trade.

how do you confuse spencer strider with zack wheeler?

1. You could have both of them on your fantasy baseball team. 2. You could be a human being who occasionally makes mistakes?

Perhaps one saw Zack walking down the street, and Spencer bicycling.

Can I be the debbie downer - I keep having Eric Lauer PTSD with Quinn Priester - came out of no where and have put together a great season, and if you look at Priester's season to date, it is almost a mirror reflection of Lauer's 2021 break out year. The big difference is the age - Priester is 24, and Lauer had his break out at age 26. But those two years are strikingly similar (Lauer more K and more HRs, Priester really more IP/game pitched).

Still another 1.5-2 WAR season by Priester next year like Lauer would still make this trade a clear cut win, but hoping that Priester doesn't turn into a pumpkin again next season.

The Brewers do excel at getting the best 1-2 years out a player (see Lauer, Hudson, Myers as recent pitching examples, and guys like Wong, Urias, Renfroe as hitters).

I was wrong about the trade, and I am happy to be wrong about this, but a lot of players flash and give us fans a great 1-2 years, but fewer have sustained it. (For the record I was wrong about Burnes' break out in 2020 and that didn't age well the next season, so I ain't too good at this predicting thing)

I mean it wouldn't surprise me if he settled to be a 4th/5th type starter, but that's still tremendous value given how many years the Brewers have control for.  Also it is funny you bring up Lauer, given the incredible year he is having with the Blue Jays.

I'll maintain that the Brewers gave up on Lauer too early.

To be fair, he wasn't good in AAA or KBO last year either, and teams can't wait around for 2 years to see if someone figures it out, so I don't begrudge the Brewers moving on, and we have our own problem of too many good pitchers now anyway. :)

I'm glad he somehow figured it out this year and is having success.
