I’ll guess the Yankees outbid everyone for Suarez. The Brewers end up with Naylor or O’Hearn. Possibly a slumping IKF for cheap if they want SS depth.

So that’s, what, Wichowski and Bitoni for Naylor?  We missed out if I’m close.

Nope, nope we didn't...

I wouldn’t be surprised if Arnold and Stearns are cooking something behind the scenes. The Mets need pitching and are shopping their infield surplus. Maybe something where the main pieces are Cortes and Baty. I’m sure they’d prefer to keep Baty though over the others

What I would like and what I expect are two different things….. What I expect is some left handed reliever I never heard of before who is 28 years old who they expect they can tweak a delivery to make them magical. Jorge Solar and some cash for Nestor C and a mid level prospect and Paul Dejong for a player to be named later.

Same thing different year - they'll trade for a no name reliever who will either be really good for them or absolutely awful and then grab a bat who won't cost much in terms of prospects.

Thinking about this some more -- and don't take this like I'm picking on you here; but, I wonder if any of the thinking with Arnold and the Brewers are "why provide our potential matchups in the playoffs with competent arms or bats?"

You wonder how often teams think this when the deadline comes around.

We don't need to trade any MLB ready pitching to any contender in the National League!  I don't want Cortez or Quintana to bite us in the ... during the NL playoffs.  If we were fortunate to get to the WS and the Yankees or other AL team had either, that is just part of trading.

I’m sure that’s a consideration, although I can’t imagine it happens all that often where two contenders having opposing needs and surpluses

I have this weird feeling that Cortes is gonna be headed back to New York for a lotto ticket low level arm our scout team likes.

As for buying maybe an Ahmed Rosario, Mike Soroka package Maybe a Maikel Garcia that would be pretty splashy and he is at least controllable. I doubt we get the exciting big splash play. Just not this front office’s MO.

Gonna guess Will Castro

Looking like maybe they might role with the guys they have.  Will be a bit disappointed

There definitely gonna make an addition or 2. It just is gonna vary on the magnitude of the acquisition. Just keep in mind the Brewers (with Arnold regime) have absolutely aced trades. So have faith that even a small trade can make a big difference and they historically know what players to deal and who to keep *knock on wood.

I would prefer Mauricio he can play SS and OF on top of switch hit. I like Baty but just think Mauricio would be perfect.

Dream: Abrams, Coulombe, Suarez.

Likely scenario: O’Hearn

Why Coulombe? I get the other 2 and didn't realize how good Coulombe has been the past few years but lefty relief is one thing we have way more than enough of. I guess I can see it if you would replace Koenig in the 8th with him.

To replace Koenig yes.

I looked at his [Suarez] splits - 27 of his 36 home runs were hit at Chase or Coors Fields. Add to it his poor defense and base running - he doesn't really seem like a fit here.

I agree completely - I hope we avoid “overpaying” for Eugenio Suarez. We need power but at a reasonable cost.

I would say “no” to trading any of our young starting pitchers with years of team control. We will need them next year & beyond.

Great idea … he could be valuable now & in future seasons too

I would be happy with Maikel Garcia - if not an overpay

I would be okay with Willi Castro - but not excited

I don't know if the upgrade is just in-house but not on 40 man.

To clear a 40man/spot on 26 I'd have to guess they move Hoskins, Quintana, or Cortez for a RP or some A/A+ player they like.

Since Turang is a non factor moving to SS and Durbin is doing enough to continue at 3b, the goal is a SS.  One that is better than Ortiz when combining defense with offense.  They can't be a negative at defense because too many of the Brewer pitchers induce above average  GB percentages.

Yeah, most deadlines are like this. A few deals here and there in the days leading up to the deadline and then a flurry of activity in the last few hours on the last day.

While this is probably a good year to spend some guys with value on upgrades...considering the value guys like Myers, Henderson, Patrick, etc should have...I don't want to go for Suarez. While the “fit” questioning is valid, dissecting his HR numbers seems like random statistical noise to me. Chase Field has a lower HR park factor than American Family Field. Of any concern I have with Suarez, his power not translating to AmFam isn’t one of them.
