Couldn't we just give them cash?  Do they hate Montgomery so much they just had to be rid of him now and couldn't tolerate his presence on the 60 day IL?

Yeah but cash transactions need commissioner office approval.  Teams are not supposed to sell players. But taking on dead salary is OK.

Brewers fans "DO SOMETHING!"

*Brewers acquire a sub 2 ERA reliver for free*

Brewers fans "WHAT ARE WE DOING, DONT DO THAT IT MAKES NO SENSE"

I mean you’re leaving out the fact the sub reliever has a very lengthy injury history and has been on the IL twice the past month with a forearm strain. The odds of him helping us seem very low. Hope I’m wrong

Shelby Miller is scheduled to be coming off the IL. I think people may be sleeping on just how good a healthy Shelby Miller is.

We could have added a prime Walter Johnson to this roster for free and people would have been mad we didn't address the hot dog prices in the 3rd base concourse at the deadline...

I'm actually hopeful for Miller. I do count him as an improvement in the pen and am glad they made a move to get better. Definitely would have liked to see more but my disappointment level has been lowered. When Miller returns he should be useful in the pen.

Watching Monasterio step up to the plate in a key situation is going to drive me to the verge of insanity however.

Big market Brewers get something for nothing again

We bought him for the $7 million or whatever we have to pay Montgomery.

The Padres fans have to feel like the team is all in. Do you feel Brewers despite having best record in baseball is all in?

I really don’t care how people feel. Sports fandom involves all kinds of emotions. I want smart moves that help. If the only available moves aren’t smart — sending out substantial assets for low-probability “upgrades” — then the smartest move is standing pat. If some people feel unhappy about that, then they can feel perfectly free to stop watching and supporting the best team in baseball.

Clearly the front office disagrees because they're essentially paying Miller $7.5 mil the rest of the season. Now that money is essentially evened out with Cortes gone, but they still could've been cheap and saved that money.

Miller is on the Injured List with a forearm strain,  Jordan Montgomery is also part of the deal. Consider he underwent Tommy John surgery before the season even began

Teams are giving up honest to god prospect capital for relievers and we just bought ours. This rules.

Offset by what was owed to Cortes

No prospects, "most of" the remaining contract (approx $7.5M).  Attanasio said he was willing to pay some dead money out, Arnold took him up on it.

We didn’t trade Reese Olson’s cousin for anybody

I agree with you but I'm putting an asterisk on this ... lot of DFAs and roster shuffling incoming around the league. I would have loved a bonafide stud as well, but there should be some options that are more the Brewers fancy (low cost) hitting the market for us to look at shortly.
