Yeah they probably figured this would be a good time to skip a start against a bad team and let someone else throw.  I think we all knew something like this was coming in order to limit his innings.

I'm no conspiracy theorist but this is probably just load management. Probably a minor injury that he could pitch through if it was the playoffs but unnecessary against WAS.

I thought the same thing immediately. He would miss today against the Nationals and then a home game against the Mets... then would be eligible to come back on 8/15 against the Reds. But if they held him back one more rotation through beyond that he would be returning for the Cubs series.

I'm not calling shenanigans but this seems strategic.

I would say so since the injury happened on June 12th.

I’ve always been fascinated that teams abuse the IL like this, but don’t use the same thing to get around the 3 batter reliever minimum when they just want a pitcher to face one batter. Why doesn’t a lefty come in to face one lefty and then ask a trainer to come look at his arm? Who’s going to tell him it doesn’t actually hurt?

That would be slick, but I wonder how often you would get away with it. After a 2nd time where a lefty reliever gets pulled from a game but doesn't go on the IL? Is that when eyebrows raise?

I guess. I always assumed that MLB knows what’s going on in situations like this IL stint too but never really seems to do anything about it.

For Miz, there is plenty of video evidence to substantiate a possible contusion injury. Plus, it’s not like we are tricking the system to bring up a reliever because our bullpen is short today.

Miz gets paid more being on MLB IL than being optioned to AAA. 🤷‍♂️

As someone who is also tall, I can say that tibia contusions are a common thing.  Bed frames, coffee tables, park benches, etc., I've had a few doozies that have drawn blood.

Ugh I'm going to the game today and was excited to see The Miz.  Oh well, hope it's a short stint to let the swelling come down.

This is actually big for the bullpen too. Option Henderson after the game, bring up an extra bullpen arm until you need another start and line up Patrick for that one, then repeat until Miz’s next turn.

The unofficial 7, or even 8, man rotation.  Could do that the rest of the year.

Luckily would only need to do this one more time before you get the free extra pitcher in September.

If they were planning to do this then they must really think Nelson Cortes is cooked with his sub-90mph fastball in AAA.

My thoughts……..2 things can be true……

1 He got hit with a line drive causing some bruising and pain……leading to a slow recovery and some concern

2 The contusion is well timed in a sense in that it allows them to give him a break

I don’t even care that the MLB allows these minor IL trips. It’s a long season and 26 man rosters are small. Let them send a guy down for 10 days if he’s nicked up. As long as teams aren’t signing guys for $10m just to IL stash them all year, just let it go, let teams keep their guys healthy especially for the playoffs.

These are the type of moves that teams with a million healthy pitchers who are good have the luxury of doing instead of either burning a young arm out or having to send prospects away to fill holes left by a bunch of expensive veteran arms who start breaking down themselves.

Bravo, brewers!

I think the league figures that this doesnt harm anyone really.  If the player was against it (as in a completely fake injury), he could file a grievance with his union. In this case it probably does hurt Miz but he might be able to play through it, but why would he if he can get a 15 day rest and not risk further injury.
