Also, wouldn't mind adding another Ebel to the system in the 2nd round.

I don't know the draft as well as any of you, but I do agree if there is not a particular player or trait that the FO wants, I am all for drafting SS and CF. Keep those position players stocked - as depth is always a good thing to have and depth pieces can be moved for players of need later (see Holobetz/Yophery for Priester; Durbin/Mona for Harrison).

I suspect some 11-20 round HS pitchers, and wonder if other teams will do that as well??

The other is while we don't have high profile pitching prospects at the moment, the big league club and upper levels have 8-10 potential MLB arms that are mostly 24-27 and have 3+ years of control, which gives the '24/'25 HS pitching group some time to develop. But we rarely hit on international pitchers, so that is always an area of need to keep filling. But the M.O. is to do so in later rounds.

I'd love to see Dietz of Kuhns. Radel also sounds like a Brewers type pitcher.

I think this will be a more traditional draft since we don't have as much margin for error(room to spend on a Cooper Pratt type) without the comp picks.

I'm probably about 2 picks from being proven VERY wrong, but I like a high upside College arm here and I think we're more boring and closer to slot than other years. We'll see though(I like Ebel and Maniscalco to get another big SS from Oxford, Miss also).

Don’t be surprised if it is Trey Ebel.  There are some whispers that the Brewers could draft him with their first pick.  It is unlikely he will be available for their second round pick and I have heard the Brewers really like him.

Well one of my calls had to hit one time!

Ok... well that's just cool! I want Jaison Chourio irrationally because it'd be fun to watch brothers... this could be a LOT of fun!

I dont mind the savings and we as anyone know what we are getting with Ebel. I think he is a guy we could have gotten in the 2nd and maybe saved a bit still. I think he has less of a ceiling than his brother. Overall it isn't close to my favorite pick but I can live with it, especially since it saves us money for later.

I get why they did it. Under-slot and the Ebel bros are about as safe as you can get for prep bats. Just lack the significant upside you'd love to see from your #1 pick. He'll be good and we'll land an over-slot at 66 most likely.

So we are getting max savings there. Will be interesting to see what we do next.

I don't think the Brewers will.  I think this maybe a similar situation as the Payne pick.

It 100% will be the max savings. His brother did it last year for less.

I'm guessing they'll get at least decent savings here. Brady got 93% of the bonus at 32 last year, but he was higher in the collective rankings than Trey is this year.

My guess is Trey gets 85% of the bonus, which would put him around $3.1 million. So that would be about a $500-600K savings.

Doubt he'd have been there in Rd 2.

If he comes in anywhere near slot, it's a bad pick.

WHAT on Earth does this organization have to do to get people to stop qualifying the Brewers picks?

Braylon Payne as a terrible pick, remember? And now he's looking like a potential superstar.

If they think he's a future stud... it'd be foolish to wait for him at #66 hoping he'd be there(probably wouldn't be).

If he's underslot... which I'm guessing he is, I'll be thrilled and hope they get a high upside arm. If he's at slot... I'll trust the Brewers scouting and development.

They are not infallible. Acting like they are and completely missing the point of the post in general (and ignoring my prior post on the pick in the process) is nothing but bootlicking. I like Ebel, he's a solid player. The point of the post is at anywhere near slot, it's not good value. He won't be near slot so you're arguing just to argue because someone slandered your daddy.

75% of slot would be $2,775,000

That is exactly $25k more than Brady signed for last year. If my boys are anything to go off of, I’d retroactively give Brady another $25k so they play nice.

Can't really say that with any kind of confidence tbh

Well, I felt pretty confident when I said it.

No, you're right, they're not infallible... I'll definitely go with you over the Brewers because you  "slandered my daddy."

Dude... what a clownish response.

You made a strong assertion with no support or explanation for anyone who might not already agree with you. Essentially, you acted like you think *you’re* infallible — like you’re above the need for persuasion that norms of intelligent conversation place on us mere mortals. BrewerFan came back with a thorough, substantive, fleshed-out reply. The best you could do in response was bluster and name-calling. As for me, I loved the Payne pick at the time, so I’d have a hard time buying that this Ebel pick is as clearly bad as you suppose if it comes in at slot (though of course I’ll be happier if it comes in lower). The Brewers aren’t infallible; they whiffed on Brown and Wilken. But they’ve earned the benefit of more than tossed-off hot takes and juvenile cheap shots.
