I think Peralta deserves his own thread.

For $8 M this year, Peralta provided 5.5 WAR and a 2.70 ERA over 33 regular season starts. Incredible value.

Peralta has 30+ starts for three consecutive seasons.

I’d rather have Peralta’s 2026 performance for $8 M than trade him for the equal or lesser equivalent of DL Hall and Joey Ortiz. Maybe a higher ceiling version of Caleb Durbin, if such a player is made available.

I'm good with whatever they do. Peralta's value is probably higher given the contract. Burnes made $15,637,000 his final year. Peralta is making a little over half that. I could see the Brewers packaging a decent prospect or a controllable player like Collins or Black for a higher end prospect.

I’m with you for the reasons you stated. Imagine how excited we would be to sign a guy as good as Freddy for $8m (almost impossible). One other thing would be if we traded Freddy, were left with only one SP who has a full year of service time under his belt. While I’m as excited as the next fan for the young crop of starters we have, the rotation needs some veteran stability. Even if we have Freddy on the roster, we probably want another veteran similar to a Quintana or a Fedde to help take up some innings.

outside of the purely baseball/payroll purposes, I just like Freddy. He’s a personality I want to root for on my favorite team. It’s fun to root for guys like Freddy on your favorite team. Now I liked having Burnes, Hader, and Williams on the team because they were all very good- they weren’t as loveable as Freddy (personal opinion here). So I hope they take the Adames route with Peralta and if he finds a home elsewhere during free agency I will live with it.

I was 100% on the trade Hader/Williams/Burnes train (I personally would have traded Williams and Hader even sooner). But keep Freddy. $8m is an absolute steal, and maybe just maybe he wants to stick around an an extension could be worked out. Unlikely, but keeping him at least makes it a possibility. If someone blows us out of the water with exactly what the team is looking for, then sure go ahead. But I kind of doubt it. I think Freddys performance on the mound, his presence in the clubhouse, and the comp pick are worth more than what we're likely to get as a return and who we can sign for $8m.

Yeah, I'm on board with keeping Freddy for another season and taking the comp pick unless the right trade offer comes along. He can help mentor the young starters coming up and provide stability to the rotation.

Just as a matter of speculation, what kind of extension after next year do you think it would take to get Freddy to stay? 5 years/$175M? Not advocating for it more just curious.

Only eight pitchers have ever hit a $35M AAV or higher…Scherzer, Verlander, Wheeler, deGrom, Snell, Cole, Strasburg and Burnes.

I think Freddy’s top end is more in that Carlos Rodon 6/162 ($27M AAV) or Tyler Glasnow 5/136.5 ($27.3M AAV) neighborhood.

I hope he stays also but the talking heads on MLB Network said: "Brewers are paying him with a bargain basement contract right now for a pitcher as good as he is."

If you can get the right player in return, trade him.  It would need to be similar to the trade for Wild Bill. Proven high quality bat that is blocking someone.  It's really threading the needle, but Peralta definitely has value.

Jordan Lawler would be one guy to look at in some type of a Peralta trade.

Lawlar is lined up to be the starting 3B for the DBacks after they dealt Suarez at the deadline.

Maybe if ARI brings back Eugenio in FA or splurges on Bregman it could free Lawlar up for trade, but even then a guy with his pedigree (peaked at #7, ten other Top 30 overall rankings) is probably too rich for one year of Peralta anyway since we couldn’t pull anyone that good for Burnes.

I want a proven power hitter in his prime or no deal. That probably means … no deal, and that’s fine. They have too much youth already, and several solid prospects on the farm, don’t really need more multiple prospects.

Postseason worst hitters: Ortiz, Turang, Vaughn, Frelick, Yelich, all under .200  That's over 1/2 our line up. Just a thought before a Peralta trade.

Peralta to the Mets for Baty and one of Tong/McLean/Sproat might be something the Mets would do that could interest the Brewers too.

Baty may have been available last offseason, but I doubt he is now and if he is it would cost more than one season of Peralta.

Giving Woodruff the deal they did injured and then selling Freddy would make zero sense. Keep him

I kind of agree depending on what Freddy wants, Yelich will be 34 next season would rather get rid of him than Freddy.

While the Mets would 100% trade Baty and his under .750 OPS  for a year of a Freddy Peralta with whom they have a great chance of resigning, I’ll play along and pretend you are right.

I still would trade Peralta for one of the three aforementioned pitchers along with infield prospect Jett Williams..  So whichever of Williams and Baty they want to deal us along with one of those three pitchers is a workable deal for both sides.

Williams, Tong, McLean are all top 50ish prospects in baseball and no way would the Mets do 2 of them for Peralta.

My guess is Peralta has $25-$30M in trade surplus value so maybe Williams or Tong & a couple of top 20 organizational prospects. McLean is out of reach after showing future ace upside in his BL outings.

Id counter that us adding one or two 15-20 prospects is closer to fair value than us NOT getting two 50-75 prospects in the deal.    Keep in mind an extension with the Mets is possible to be agreed upon just before a hypothetical trade occurs, thus improving our compensation package.

You make sure and get Baty or Williams and one of the three pitchers in any Mets/Peralta deal.

Are we thinking the Brewers will get more for Freddy than they did for Burnes?

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

My guess is roughly the same. Freddy has a cheaper contract but Burnes had the better track record and was more of a reliable workhorse.

Something around the same value but obviously different in structure. I dunno. Ortiz looked like a pretty good acquisition a year ago and now not so much.
