That stinks. Kimbrel's agent just made a phone call I bet.

A good decision to have it now. He'll miss the entire season, but should be back before the end of next season and contribute to next season's playoff team.

Can't believe he was able to get the better part of 3-4 seasons pitching with a partial tear...hoping for a good surgery and effective recovery.

Now, get some clarification on Jeffress' and Nelson's progress before going bonkers bringing more arms in.

Definitely stinks, he was our best pitcher in Sept/Oct last year bar none, just dominant.

But let’s not forget that on August 21st he was sent to the minors with an ERA over 5. It’s not like we’re replacing Hader’s 2018 production. Relievers are volatile, I trust Stearns will find a way to replace Corey’s productivity, and no that doesn’t mean we have to get Kimbrel (though I’d love it...for the right price)

It's too bad he's going to miss this season, given the expectations / aspirations of anyone reading this, but having the surgery now is better than waiting a few months and still having to have the surgery (which is the timetable I was worried about).

I am glad he chose this route. He tries therapy this year and comes back it is just the makings of his whole career blowing up. This gives him a chance. Next man up for the Brewers. He is a great player and a big piece of what we're trying to do, but let's remember this is one RP; his replacement will provide some replacement value, and the Brewers, even with some very bad teams, have seemed to have a knack for finding these types.

Somebody big was gonna get hurt, at least we've got a season to adjust.

Since when has Stearns gone bonkers?! Not the bonkers kind of guy.

Well this just sucks. Our bullpen was arguably the biggest strength for our team and as of now it’s a huge detriment. I mean are we really replacing studs like JJ and Knebel with absolute trash like Chase Anderson and Matt Albers? An outside move needs to be made. Hader cannot do it all. Fortunately JJ comes back so we’ll probably just have to weather the storm and hope he gets right quickly. The thought of Matt Albers coming in to blow winnable games sends chills down my spine and raises my BP.

If losing one guy and Jeffress for a couple weeks makes the strength of the team a detriment, it wasn't a strength to start with. Step away from the ledge. Do people think the 25-man would go all year without a serious injury? It is also March. It is very likely, if not a guarantee, that an outside move is made at some point. It's also a guarantee that anything short of Kimbrel won't be good enough in most people's eyes.

It's March 29 and our team is really good, enjoy it.

I heard from a friend of an enemy whose brother knows someone who lives near Miller Park that the Brewers are going to forfeit tonight's game because too many players are stuck in the fetal position. A decision on cancelling the rest of the season will be made tomorrow...

Just wanted to remind everyone of last April. Knebel went down with a hamstring injury, it looked very bad. We wondered what we would do. What we did was have arguably our most dominant stretch of the season for the pen. Ironically it was when Knebel returned that we started to struggle again.

I don't say this in any way to correlate Knebel to pen struggles or understate his value, it's a big loss. Just more or less stating that the pieces that had that stretch last year are still here now. They'll get creative and they'll be all right. We will play matchups and probably get unconventional. We may not have a traditional closer in 2019, and that's okay.

It stinks but it's no surprise. Any time I read a pitcher's name and the word "elbow" in the same paragraph I just assume TJ is coming. Hopefully JJ is back to form soon.

This.

I was worried he would do exactly that. I can understand players not wanting to go under the knife and lose more than a year to a painful rehab program, but so often it just means they lose 2 full years.

So at least he will be back sometime next season (assuming the Brewers tender him).

I think this is the right move given the downside. Would be in favor of signing Jennings now (and Kimbrel of course!)

Glad he’s having the surgery, 99% chance he’s back throwing better than ever by 2nd half of next year. We’re gonna need him then to repeat.

Just like the 100% chance Nelson would be the opening day starter?

TJS and the likelihood a full recovery within ~18 months is highly probable, the rate of success for that surgery and recovery is so much more certain than any kind of shoulder injuries and surgeries.

FWIW

The doctor that is performing his surgery is the most skilled in the us at this type of surgery. So I bumped it up from 80%
