Hader VERY BAD for Padres

I think he's had too much success for me to believe that he's permanently "lost it," and he'll now just be some average (or worse!) set-up man. Being traded during a personally challenging time for a family could make it difficult to focus at work right now so that he can make the necessary corrections/adjustments.

I'll predict that he'll be great again... but perhaps not until next season, when he's making A LOT of money.

Yeah, whether it's concern over his family or if the Brewers pitching lab saw something mechanical, you have to wonder if the Brewers thought there might be something that would take some time to figure out. That could have been a reason to trade him at the deadline rather than waiting until the offseason when his value could be lower.

I expect he'll "find it" and be dominant again at some point, but the Brewers needed to trade him prior to next season, and it's looking like they made the right call timing-wise.

"The most successful (people) know that performance over the long haul is what counts. If you can seize the day, great. But never forget that there are days yet to come."

Here is a video suggesting it is mechanical (I'm not sure of the merit of the video):

I don't  recall where I heard this (likely work?) But somewhere I heard the tipping pitches was just if Hader breathed in heavy(ier) that he was throwing a Fastball. Giants game with the 6runs given up was the culprit of the tipping this way.

Hader just entered the game for the Padres and so far has gone:

Single

Double

Walk

Double

Single

Strikeout

3 runs have scored so far with just 1 out recorded.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

If the Padres end up non-tendering him in the offseason, wonder if he would consider resigning with us to get right in our pitching lab...What a scenario that would be.

I feel bad for Josh…….but glad that it appears the Brewers sold at the right time…..if Gasser or Ruiz turn out to be a real asset the trade could be a genius move.

Update:  It's now gone like this...

Single

Double

Walk

Double

Single

Strikeout

Walk

Single

He gave up 5 runs and left runners at the corners on 34 pitches. He was then pulled for a position player (Wil Myers) with just one out recorded.

Disastrous couple of months for Hader.  Entering the game down three runs and ends up with another 0.1 IP 6 ER outing, getting pulled for a position player.  Painful that the Phantom IL might be the next stop for him.

Gasser has been effective since being promoted to AA.  Ruiz entering today with a 16 game hitting streak.

Hader now has a 23.14 ERA since joining the Padres.

He's given up 12 earned runs over 4.2 IP.

Maybe most incredibly he's allowed 21 of his 35 batters faced to reach base safely.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

It’s all set up for Hader to sign with the Dodgers next year and for him to dominate the Padres to rub salt in their wound.

He would be better off immersing himself in the Dodgers pitching lab. They take trash and turn it into treasure. Imagine what they could do with Hader.

I don't know if he would be that better off, considering they haven't been able to do much with Kimbrel. Plus, he's got the familiarity in Milwaukee and has already won three reliever of the year awards here.

It’s possible that the Hader trade completely demoralized our fan base and the clubhouse to some extent, and his bullpen replacements won’t perform overly well in 2022, and it still may end up as a win for the Brewers on paper. It’s insane. Really does wonder if the comments earlier in this thread about the Brewers possibly knowing something are legit.

Following Hader has kinda been like watching a train wreck.  Feel sorry for him. Wonder if the Brewers knew they were trading damaged goods. Of course, SD did that as well, but Rogers hasn't been that bad.

I personally have felt that the whole "clubhouse demoralized because of Hader" thing was the very low-hanging fruit of things to blame for this season. The team just isn't THAT good. It's decent, but not in the echelon it was in 2018, or even 2019 or 2021. Their schedule turned much harder later in the season.

That said, I'll still think they'll get one of the Wild Cards.

Sidenote, I'm also tired of the idea that they should have traded him at last year's deadline. They were a 95-win team that got cold at an inopportune time. Last year was absolutely not the time to trade him, they had a chance to do something last year. And it's baseball, they still do now. But I think they traded him at precisely the correct time, even if he was gangbusters in SD right now.

Still a Hader fan; hope he pulls it together (just not so much that Milwaukee can't catch the Padres.)

Hader & Grisham giving up that Wild Card game to the Nationals was one of my worst fan moments.  Hader closing out Burnes' no hitter was one of the best.

Hope he's around for a long time; I'll be rooting for him.

Was just going to say he hasn't been the same pitcher since that game.  I understand the financial benefits to being a capital C closer, but man I wonder how it would've gone if he would've stayed our "break in case of emergency" swing man out of the pen.

That trade right now is nothing less than dodging a bullet.
