The Cubs have done this twice now once to Sveum and now to Ross.

And they also did it to Rick Renteria when they hired Maddon

I didn’t say the two were the same … I simply said the last time I was this heartbroken as a BREWERS fan was on that day

No, you said the last time you were this disappointed IN A BREWER...inferring you were as disappointed in Moilitor as you were today.

This statement I agree with though. This is a punch in the gut.

33% chance?

Just looked, no Cubs manager has made it more than 4 years since Riggleman made it 5 in the late 90s.  Before that it was Durocher in the late 60s

I don't know why anyone is trying to make this more than what it is. Just baseless projection from people who don't like our owner or front office implying this had anything to do with how they run the Brewers. It was made abundantly clear Counsell was out for one thing and one thing only, to reset the manager's market. He was always going wherever the most money was. That ended up being the Cubs not the Mets like most thought it would be. Even the Mets weren't willing to match the Cubs offer.

I'm not seeing a whole lot of people making this about Attanasio or an organizational failure. It's basically the same people who always Sixto and then Brewer888 who said the Mets were going to give Counsell 15M a year and it was a lock he was going there.

You very clearly did not read this thread. Plenty of comments of people saying this had to do with Counsell not liking how Mark/Arnold run things.

They offered a deal to Counsell that was good but it was to save face knowing he was taking the highest offer.

Just like Sabathia...

Damn, I'm taking those odds he doesn't make it.  Find me that prop bet and I'll put cash down hard

Not me. Not the guy who complained about the roof. He's not the highest quality on the shelf.

Would you take Freddie Freeman at 1b?

That was a pretty bad team he had last year.

Plus all the drama would be fun.

Only on BF.net can offering  a guy a contract that would have made him the highest paid manager in baseball be viewed as a sure sign that the owner is a penny pinching Ebenezer Scrooge. ………

Steve Cohen is even laughing at that one.

The fact that this wasn’t just standard operating procedure PR speak is quite eyebrow-raising, to say the least.  Makes it seem Attanasio was as surprised as anyone else.

It’d be pretty easy to say ‘We will always be grateful for Craig’s contributions.’

Attanasio is either legitimately surprised or he is coming out strong to paint Counsell as the bad guy to save face.

And he didn't want to manage a team who's owner only spends money on over the hill retreads to one year contracts and instead manage a team that will spend big money to put a real championship contender on the field.

Wait, you mean the team that traded away every piece from it's World Series title squad?

And flatly refused to leverage its resources for years, ceding the division to hated rivals, including the smallest market and 20th ranked payroll.  Pretty embarrassing, really
