That's highly unlikely though. The Braves have something to play for while their opponent KC would send themselves to Baltimore with a win while a loss assures them they'll play Houston. Seems like a clear incentive for KC to lose to Atlanta today

Would you really rather play Houston than Baltimore? Houston just wins in the playoffs and have the much better team the last 4 months than Baltimore.

Agreed. I don't know why you'd choose to play Houston over Baltimore. Baltimore has essentially backed into these playoffs with some serious slumps the past month. They have no historicity of success in the post-season. They're very young. I take the O's 7 days a week over a Houston team and organization that almost always seems to find a way to surprise and advance (if not dominate) in the post-season.

Lol, silly me. KC up 3-0 three batters into the game

8) AZ W, ATL L, NYM W (Three-way tie going into Monday. Both games are necessary. We get the Mets in the case of a split, which be the most likely outcome, and at least one of the games would have to be real).

As of now, this is the scenario that is playing out.

So what stops these two teams from a gentleman's agreement of a split?

Major fines by MLB and probably loss of draft picks.

Actually, I think the commissioner would just step in and say that, in the best interest of the baseball, forfeits are not allowed for these games.

FYI- in case anyone is wondering about game times. I found this (and it appears to line up with the guide I see on Spectrum Cable). Does not show which teams are playing in each slot, but shows the time / network for each game. Was really hoping for night games. Not looking like that is a good possibility for Tuesday (if this info is correct)

I think 4:30, 6:30 and 8:30 are about the best I could have hoped for. Was worried about my job getting in the way of my baseball fandom, but this is good.

The team that wins the first game will not have much motivation to win the second.

So there's no scenario in which we play the Braves in the wildcard round?  If that's the case, we're just rooting for a split tomorrow and we get the Mets.

And in particular, a Mets loss in G1 and a win in G2 where they throw everything they have to make it in, then have to go back to Milwaukee spent.

Agreed, whoever wins first is going to put out the Sunday lineup for the second game, so it's probably more likely than not that there's a split.

A split is more likely than not, but it's far from a forgone conclusion. These are division rivals. They have pride and there will certainly be a desire to eliminate the other entirely. There will be no gentleman's agreement.
