Corbin Burnes vs Colin Rea at Wrigley on Friday

Miles Mikolas’ contract mercifully ends this year, too. He will have made $138 million as a Cardinal providing slightly below league average performance. 99 ERA+

Sometimes you gamble and lose. The Cardinals looked like geniuses when they plucked Mikolas from Japan in ‘18 on a modest two year deal. The first extension was a wash, Mikolas was effective when he pitched but missed all of coivd-ball in ‘20 then most  of ‘21 with an arm injury. They should’ve known to walk away but pressed their luck with a second extension for Mikolas covering’23-‘25.  Since then, Mikolas has an era over 5 and has lost more games than he won. The only real value he brings is taking the ball every fifth day and going 5+ innings.

AZ scored and 7 runs in the 8th inning. AZ is ahead now 8-7 over the Cubs.

Corbin Burns gave up all the 7 runs to AZ.

Nice comeback by the DBacks, but Burnes only gave up two runs through six innings. He was relieved by Ryne Nelson in the 7th who surrendered the other five runs scored by the Cubs.

I have been a Brewer fan since County Stadium when I sold peanuts there as a kid and after I turned 18. I lived both in Nashville and Philly,  WT Heck its like HR derby there 15 runs in the 8th inning.

The most amazing part of that game is that it barely went over 3 hours despite 24 runs, 33 hits, and 12 pitchers used.

First time since 2006 that a team surrendered a 10+ run inning and won.

Couldn't happen to a better organization...

It feels like the Cubs play the Dodgers every week.

After these 2 games they will have played their entire slate of games for the season  against the Dodgers

Cubs had 20 of their first 26 against the NL West. That's a nice division to mostly have in your rear view mirror by late April. The other six were against Texas and the Athletics. Weird schedule.

I will admit watching EDLC is pretty fun. He's one of those guys like a Yeli where it's just fun to watch him run the bases with that long stride, more like a 400m track star than a baseball player. And then throwing to 1st base at what looks like 100mph every play is fun too.

He’s fun to watch but rough around the edges. I bet it is frustrating for Reds fans. I saw quite a bit of him against Seattle last week and his play was pretty brutal for the most part. Makes the spectacular play but botches routine ones. Lacks plate discipline. Common things with young guys but enough to keep him below superstar tier for now…

Are the cubs good again? They have a lot of regression candidates on that roster but I am sure Tucker will mash all year, PCA is a top prospect playing well and they are winning games.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

We can throw out the Pirates I think that is agreed. The Reds lack middle of the order hitters to provide stability, the Cards have some youth that could get hot but in general the team isn't very athletic and defense is a worry. The Cubs are the most well rounded team and it would be assumed that they have money and prospects to add at the deadline if it is a big rotation arm, a couple of pen guys, or a position of need. I have written this before but there bullpen isn't going to hold especially since their rotation is a bit thin and the will likely overuse the good bullpen arms they do have. The lineup is scary and poses a big threat but after Tucker they really are a collection of #2 or #5 hitters which is really good, but not scary.
