"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Saw the headline that said the Dodgers won in Tokyo and thought of how stupid it is that a team has to participate in the charade of starting the regular season now and traveling to Japan to play the team that buys every Japanese player.

Then I saw that team was the Cubs and found it hilarious and totally justified.

Was a pitcher’s duel initially with the Cubs on top, then Imanaga ran out of steam in the 4th. Counsell went to one of his relievers who could give him length and it Ben Brown took a few hitters to find his command in the 5th but at that point three Dodger runs had crossed the plate and the game was essentially over.

The professionalism of the Dodgers is kind of impressive. They didn’t have a hit against Imanaga, Ben Brown comes in seemingly blinks for a second and the Dodgers were all over him, scoring the decisive runs.

Not only are they in last place in the central, but they are in last place in all of baseball.  Currently, the cubs are the worst team in major league baseball.

Remember what Yoda said:

The Cubs have a brutal opening month of the season. They could be meaningfully below .500 entering May. Even the A’s series could be tough.

After tomorrow’s game in Japan against the Dodgers:

Four against the Diamondbacks in Arizona

Three against the A’s in Sacramento
Three against the Padres at home

Three against Rangers at home

Three against the Dodgers in Los Angeles
Three against the Padres in San Diego

Three against the Diamondbacks in Chicago
Two against the Dodgers in Chicago

Three against the Phillies in Chicago

Cubs drop game two. 15 base runners and only three runs. Not a lot of bright spots against a Dodger lineup that was without Betts and Freeman.

I guess the Cub bullpen only allowed one run over 5 IP today.

Cubs travel to Arizona for four game series next week.

Roberts is a good coach, but also having a team of high paid vets will do that. Imagine what the Brewers would look like if we could have afforded to keep Willy, Burnes, Hader, Devin, and then had an top free agents like Mookie, Freeman, a couple 30 million dollar starters and 5-6 vets making 10-20 million. Not to mention Mr. 700.

I watched game 1. Really fun that as a cubs home game, there were 30k dodger fans in jerseys and Let’s Go Dodgers chants. Nice to give LA some exposure to that market. Hope it helps that plucky little franchise sign some Japanese players.

That was sarcasm, but deferred until 2030.

Hader was a total mess when he was traded and an ERA of over 5 this spring. I sure don't miss him. Also the Dodgers had only 5 more wins than the Brewers last season but the weaker division did help Milwaukee.

PCA is doing a great job thus far affirming my belief that spring training numbers are absolutely meaningless...and that's he's got alot more Corey Patterson to his game than most Cub fans begging for him to take a significant step forward at the MLB level will allow him to actually do it.

I appreciate PCA is much younger than Blake Perkins but he seems like Perkins to me.

I like that comp, too.  He's not an OMG watch out for this guy the next decade sort of prospect.  Good tools, stellar defense, but he's just not going to hit enough at the MLB level to be a cornerstone offensive player

Not counting Milw/LA D. The central had a better Win pct than the NL West.  The schedule isn't as division heavy. So the Central was tougher than the West.

I don’t know about that PCA will be just 23 in a few days (a hair under two years older than Chourio).

In 1120 minor league plate appearances PCA hit .296/.368/.515. In 1211 minor league PAs Chourio hit .286/.347/.490.

Obviously, he’s struggled in the majors more than Chourio, but much to our chagrin it’s realistically too early to write off someone with that kind of minor league production. If he could manage to be 85% of what he was in the minor leagues he’ll play for a decade as a CFer

Yea all he has to do is hit at a competent level and he's solid MLB starting player due to such good D and baserunnig.  But the way he's been hyped/talked about is not just to be a good starter, but some kind of star.  There's a difference between say Harrison Bader to Kyle Tucker.   'd have my money on more Bader for PCA, Cubs fans/hype seems to expect way more though. It certainly is possible though since he's so young
