Seems like a truly insane price. The Marlins went for $1.4 billion (I believe) and it was a monster overpay.

I don’t believe billionaires typically overpay for things.

As determined by whom? If they went up for sale today it would undoubtedly be for even more. There is a very limited supply of teams and demand to own one.

They will if they believe the long-term appreciation and value they can add is much greater than the short-term overpay.

Just about everyone thought that Facebook's acquisition of Instagram for $1B was a massive overpay.  Now, it looks like the bargain of the century.  And certainly, what pro teams sold for 20 years ago is a fraction of what they are worth today.

The former team president, who's said it repeatedly over the last couple years.

Thanks, helpful to substantiate something otherwise it just comes across as an opinion.

Watching Cubs-Mariners. Why do the Cubs have unís that look like vintage Expo gear? And Cal Raleigh is really good.

Mariners had 9 runs and 13 hits against the Cubs. All 9 runs and twelve of the hits came after two were out. Cubs got the first two Mariners out in 7 of the nine innings.

How good is Brock Wilken? Any prediction when he can help us in Milwaukee?

He looks better this year so far at AA.  I think he still has K issues but they look to be improved this year.  I haven’t checked his K% yet this year but his other stats look better.

I love all the noise about Sammy "The Roid" Sosa showing up at Wrigley.

Questions are a burden.   And answers a prison for one's self.

So far, he's a completely different player than last year.  It sure seems like he is over the face beaning, which I think is the reason for his poor 2024 season.

He certainly looks the part this year, but no clue on when they plan to make a move with him.  He is still in AA, so I kind of think they don't see him as a piece this year for the big club.  I'd like to give him a shot sometime after the deadline, but that's just me.

Short of standing on the wall I'm not sure how you top that one. The anticipation to parkour off the wall for both the extra height and to get over to his left I never recall anything like it.

Willie Mays Hayes had a verrry similar play vs the Yankees in Major League.  That's all that comes to mind at the moment.

In a light Thursday schedule (9 games) there were 4 shut outs and 3 other losing teams scored only 1 run.

One game still going on that is 0-0 in the 3rd.

offense seems harder than usual this season.

There is more drag on the ball this year which may explain for some of the low scoring.

A Willson Contreras HBP is one of my favorite things as a baseball fan. Can't happen often enough.

Adrien Houser continues his incredible run with the White Sox today.

Doesn’t he seem like a guy we would trade for at the deadline? 🙂🤷‍♂️

Maybe Tommy Pham could be pitching in a blowout and hits Willson Contreras who subsequently charges the mound.  Yeah... that's the ticket.

I would pay to watch Willson take a hard tag from Javy Baez at second. Or Machado spiking him at first base.
