Given we have no idea what form or how long the offseason is next year, yeah I think he may play it safe and instead of trying to sign in like a 2 week free agency period just pick up the option.

I believe someone may have mentioned it earlier but Casey Schmitt is a pretty good 3B who is playing out of position in LF because of Chapman, and he's having another really solid season for the Giants. 16 HR and OPS right around .800. He'd be under club control for another three years and is versatile, if not great, defensively.

I think the 3 guys I'd look at that could come cheapish and can help are Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, or Jack Flaherty. I am not against a Skubal trade but I do have some prospects that I would not be happy if they moved for him (Made, Pena and Fischer).

A name that was mentioned in a recent Brewers postgame show was Casey Mize (RHP) from Detroit. Would be a rental starter, but shouldn’t have quite the same Skubal price tag to acquire. Doesn’t get you a top of rotation pitcher, but could solidify the #3/#4 slot in the rotation.

Kevin Gausman and Jeff Hoffman (cash say 5 this year and 3 next) for Crow, O'Rae, and H Encarnacion

We get a consistent expeeienced starter slot into the 3/4 spot and an upside pen arm with a year of control. The Jays get an immediate controllable starter and 2 upside bats as well as some salary relief. Depending on how much money they take on we could turn O'Rae into a better prospect like Luke Adams if they take on more.

I two would love Scmitt at 3rd, I would worry about the price. I think to get a guy having a year like Schmitt it would take at least Fischer/Josh A, Hardin/Letson, Bitonti/Dorchies (maybe more). for me that seems like a lot for someone who has struggled in the bigs before this year.

That’s not remotely enough to get those two.

Yeah, Toronto may move Gausman because he is an impending free agent and that’s an interesting idea for Milwaukee.

But, there would be many teams interested in adding a front of the rotation SP with playoff experience for the stretch run; so the Jays are  not going to trade him for a collection of crap. Probably would have to dip into that Top 10 prospect list to have a realistic shot.

Finally, Gausman has 10/5 rights, so if the Jays decide to break up their team, he will have some say where he is traded.

Gausman is an interesting idea. 223 IP pitched last year including postseason. Seems to be getting a bit unlucky this year, his underlying numbers look similar to his better 2025 campaign. 

The Jays are only 3 games out of a crowded AL wild card, so they need to lose more games in July or else I have a feeling they will let it ride.

Brewer pitchers don't go 7 innings because the Brewers don't want them to.  They are fully into 2Xs through the order and then finish.  Unless you are cruising or Miz you are not going 7 innings with any regurlarity.

That's why I think Senzatela is a more likely target than a pure starter, just knowing how our organization thinks.

If we do trade away top prospects, it's going to be someone that our trade partner values higher than we do.

Ok, but we are not as deep as you think we are.  I say go and get a good pitcher that can pitch more than 1 or 2 innings. Which most likely is a starter. But not a K-Mart Special disposable pitcher either.
