I know the home/road splits are what they are, but it’s not easy to pitch two different ways at home and on the road. They are also pitching in front of a mediocre defense and Seattle’s park plays neutral for home runs so they still have to make pitches. Look at Miller’s savant page, that guy is not a #5 starter. 

Woo is the only one who has such extreme home/road splits that I wouldn’t trade for him and Hancock is no different than the half-dozen options we already have in the back of the rotation.

I don’t think we will trade with Seattle but they know how to develop pitching.

It’s not crazy to think we could trade for a Seattle starter and get the good version (home splits). We get the good version of all the other pitchers we trade for.

With the Padres farm system being so bad could we maybe do a quantity over quality deal with them based on how many iffy rule 5 guys we might have.

I get that is a lot of not much but Wilken and O'Rae would likely be top 10 (O'Rae maybe top 5) and the rest around 20. Just throwing stuff around.

Here is where I land on this.  Milwaukee can win this, but they need players.  I think they could use an infusion of offense, but don’t see where it comes from.  Those CJ Abrams rumors don’t make a lot of sense to me when they commit to Pratt and Ortiz is playing like he is.  Committing to Lara too is interesting.
 

They need pitching to win.  I think Skubal would be awesome.  But expensive compared to this:  go get Joe Ryan and Mason and have more than just this year as an immediate window.  For me, all prospects except Made and Adamczewski are in play.  And hesitant to trade Fischer.  Only one of Quero/Dinges and one of Hardin/Letson.  No Henderson.  Open for business on Sproat, Crow, and Ashby (yes, Ashby).  Even Gasser, but prefer not to trade him.  Frelick is open for business too.

With a two season window (the Ryan/Contraras window) you have time for recent draft picks and international signings to fill the farm back up.  
 

Get Ryan and Mason for some combination of:

Pena, Jett, Frias, Letson/Hardin, Sproat, Crow, Ashby, Frelick, Quero/Dinges, and other lower ranked players to fill it out.  I love Frelick.  Guy can help San Diego and Minnesota rebuild.  I love Ashby.  But a fresh Hall, and adding Mason makes him a lucrative rotation or pen piece.

1. A little too much but not far off. Take out Letson and switch to someone like Dorchies and I think it's there.

2. I would do this one and think you are pretty much on the money.

3. Too much for a rental that hasn't been great. I would think it would be something like Marco and Anderson.

• One of the outfielders.   Payne, Frias, Adamczewski
• Yoho
• Lower ranked P but still in top 30...  ie Dorchies, Knoth, etc.
• Another top 30 prospect.

 

Then I'd like to talk to the the Twins about Tait.  A left handed hitting catcher who could be expendable after the Twins draft.  Pena for Tait.  Not sure straight up would be doable, but some other minor pieces being added both ways could get it done.

A lot can happen in the next couple years before he even comes up to the big leagues, but I suspect if both Pratt and Made cement themselves on the team, and Pena is showing he's legit too, you cash in on Turang and move him into his spot. But again, a lot can happen, players don't pan out, trades and injuries happen, etc., quality depth is always a great thing.

Webb would be a guy I would deal Pena for.  Helps SF re tool short term with affordable talent for their terrible offense in Sal and Fisher.  Young controllable arm, and then they get Pena as the centerpiece.
